Any cages made specifically to hold tall bottles?

So I ordered up some of the Polar bottles, that are insulated with foil to keep things cool when it’s hot out or vice-versa. What nobody told me, either from excelsports.com, anywhere else that was selling these on the net, or from our very own slowtwitch crew that gave their opinions on this bottle, is that the damn things are really TALL. I can’t fit one in my seat tube cage because it runs into the top tube. The down tube of course is not a problem, they aren’t that tall. So, do I have to make a custom cage that has the bolt holes further up, such that it sits further down the seat tube, or is there something out there for these sorts of problems? I’m on a size 55, so it’s not like I’m on a mini-bike.

I’m not sure this is what you are talking about (newbie here), but REI makes cages that hold 2 water bottles. That should suffice, no? I couldn’t find them online, but I have seen them in the store.

you can buy a cage where the bosses that hold the cage on are separate from the wire. this lets you slide the cage up or down relative to the screw holes. i use them behind the seat to keep the bottle low. I got mine at my local shop but can’t remember the brand.

that’s weird. mine fit fine on both my bikes.

OK, we’re getting closer

Clearly you are 6’9" and ride a size 72. I’m 5’10" on a 55.

(FYI) The Polar bottles come in a smaller size too. Sometimes I will use a big(tall)one and the smaller version. I hope this helps.

You could try some of the cheapo plastic ones and drill new holes farther up the mounting bracket. That would lower the cage. I find I have this problem using large bottles on a compact frame.

OK, therein lies my problem…I’m on a compact frame as well. Maybe “last tri in 83” isn’t NBA material after all.

I’m same size. They fit on my wifes 54" also.

But seeing how his wife is riding a 54", then maybe she ought to be in the WNBA.

She’s 5’7"

She’d get punked with her 2 handed granny shots.

The type you’re talking about is (or at least was) made by American Classic. You can do this, but you’ll need to drill new countersinks on the wire (this will become very apparent when you see the cage). Doable, and shouldn’t compromise the integrity of the cage.
