Any benefit to riding a disc at IMAZ?

With the recent bike course changes to IMAZ will there be much if any benefit to using a disc wheel at IMAZ? I recently purchased a Renn disc in antipation of the old course. I had visions of flying down the Beeline with that “whoomp, whoomp…” sound trailing behind me.

Any input on wheel selection would be helpful.

If you bought it - use it!!

Disc?

I want to know if i should use my P3 or road bike.

Discs are almost always faster than other wheels. Exceptions might be a completely uphill course. I’ll have the disc on.

The only reason I can think of would be if you have a very, very light alternative wheel that might help during the repeated accelerations out of the turns. If your alternative isn’t lighter than the disk, then it wouldn’t be any help at all. There still looks like a nice long out and back. The disk will shine during that period. Probably a wash in the city though. Perhaps the sound will intimidate people (or alert them) so you have more room when passing and cornering.

No question, disc.

Thanks for input. I still need to justify the expenditure with the finance dept. (wife) so at least this should help.

See ya in a month.

dude thats easy. Show her the pics and prices of the most expensive discs in the world. Then tell her about the great (wink wink) deal you got on this other disc wheel. Show her how your saving the family about $500 and still getting a disc. Then take her out to dinner to thank her for allowing you to purchase a disc.

We went out to dinner Tuesday night. I even split a bottle of wine with her just to help ease her mind.

DD–You must not be married–this is how this matter is handled. You get the disk. You put it in the attic. You ask her if she has seen that old wheel you had floating around. You look high and low. You look in the basement. You ask her if she is sure she hasn’t seen it anywhere–you hope she didn’t thrown it out! Finally you look in the attic, and lo and behold, there it is. She will be happy you are not pestering her anymore, that she didn;t throw it out by mistake, and that you are happy.

Monk, that might just work. Here’s another approach.

You set the disc up in the middle of the room on a couple of old crates or something similiar. Throw a table cloth over it and place some candles and a bottle of wine on it. When she comes home you tell her “we have a surprise tonight. Remember when we were young, just starting out and had nothing but a cheap little table and no furniture. I just wanted to relive those romantic times with you tonight. We’ll pretend it’s those days again.”

So you serve up some Kraft dinner like you always ate in those days, drink the wine and play music fom the period. At the end of the night clean up the dishes, etc. When you remove the table cloth she’ll ask “what’s that”, to which you reply “just some old wheel I had laying around. Makes a great table for an occassion like this doesn’t it Honey”.

She’ll no doubt agree as you then head off to bed.

don’t know how your bike handling is, but sometimes it can get pretty windy down around Tempe. It’s like that in the desert…

just a thought. might not be enough to make a difference. I’d get in touch with the locals.

I live in Tucson and am used to the desert winds. Also at 190-195lbs, I should be able to keep it pretty straight. I am heading out for a shake down ride with the disc this morning.

I was more concerned with all the short stretches of road and the multitude of corners.

BTW, the finance dept is all cool with it now, she just went out and had a custom frame made for a poster she’d had sitting around for a year. Between the fram and her last hair appointment, I am more than covered.
