My son is a Type one diabetic. There are several programs out there that are useful for tracking such things as blood sugars, insulin taken, carbs etc but most of them are kind of clunky and none of them have any place for actual foods eaten. Since carbs are not all created equal and other foods eaten with those carbs have a HUGE effect it would be nice to have those as well as other abilities such as tracking activity, sickness etc.
Now the real challenge here is to make doing all of the above “Fun” for kids 6-12 and even older as I’ve heard a number of horror stories about teenagers “Rebelling” when they’ve been life long diabetics and really letting their sugars go.
I had a couple ideas, making it a game etc however the one idea I really liked was to try and get “Sponsors” that would donate things as “Prizes”. The kid would get points by logging, keeping track and additional points for maintaining decent numbers and good A1C’s. The points would build up toward some “Prize” to be picked by the child.
I was even thinking this could be a monthly “Membership” type of thing combined with advertisements that the provider could then buy the prizes.
In any case I was just thinking about how to get my kid to ACTUALLY log all this stuff so the next time he’s WAY off the chart I don’t have to play 21 questions to figure out why ![]()
