Any advice on how to avoid gas cramps? (sorry if that sounds gross)

OK, so I had a great race this morning except I had terrible gas cramps on the run. It honestly felt like there was a big bubble sitting at the top of my stomach and if I could belch I would have felt great. Any advice on how to avoid/fix this? I’ve heard some people will drink something carbonated to make them burp. Sorry if this is TMI, just curious if anyone has had the same problems.

Fix - sometimes carbonation. but the trick that I learned in high school cross country is that since gass rises, kneel down on your knees and stick your butt up in the air. as long as your butt is higher than your stomach/intestines, you should start farting. hahaha of course, that works better BEFORE a race than in the middle of one.

i usually take immodium, tums, or something with me on the run and the bike in case I get stomach issues.

oh sweet baby heyzeus… are we giving farting lessons now???

lol. i was sort of worried about the responses I’d get. Honestly though, I think I could’ve shaved a minute or two off my run if I hadn’t felt so bad. Would’ve, should’ve, could’ve doesn’t win races though. I appreciate the advice austin.

What did you eat in the morning and during the race?

Jodi

I had a Cliff Bar, nibbled on a few plain cheerios (dry) on the way there, and some Cytomax. It was only a sprint so I didn’t eat anything during the race and only had a few drinks of Cytomax. I had sushi for lunch yesterday and rice and dumplings for dinner so I think maybe I overdid it on the rice. I was so bummed out because I’m sort of on the cuff of being able to win my age group and in finish in the top 25 overall but I always seem to just miss it. I have another race next week so maybe I should pay more attention to the food I eat the day before. Any suggestions?

I’ve been told that Cliff bars aren’t very easily digested, especially at high intensities. Too much fiber. They give me gas… But I LOVE them!

Did you eat at least 2 hours before the race? You want to give the food some time to get out of your stomach. I’ve had a lot of luck with a bagel with a light spread of peanut butter and a banana. Good fuel

Thanks for the advice. This is the first race I’ve tried eating a Cliff Bar before. I usually just do peanut butter toast and some cytomax. I read somewhere that nutrition won’t make your day but it can certainly break it. Thanks again for the response.

Could you please post a photo? I cant quite picture this in my head.

My old roommate used to do that. She was a riot. Would just plant herself in the middle of the living room, ass in the air and fart.

good stuff

Please stop - please. I do not want to think about women farting thank you very much.
