Another THANK YOU to Tom Ziebart!

I wanted to post and give a big thanks to Tom, as he does such a great job that we tend to take that for granted. Another Florida 70.3 has come and gone, and he truly did his usual exceptional job as RD. This race is always very well done, given the constraints placed by Disney, so I wanted to give a shout out to Tom.
And I’ll be back next year…

Oh, and the new bike course was very nice!!!

What changes to the bike course?
How was the jeep trail this year on the run?

Agreed, the race went great, the bike course was excellent, and the run was brutal (as always). I think all race directors should be required to sing the National Anthem! I bet few could do as well as Tom. And the volunteers were outstanding!

what a great experience!

for me this race was about getting away with a group of friends. we picked Florida because the timing and location were right.

we shared a cabin in fort wilderness and i was so pleasantly surprised by how beautiful the area was. we scouted out the run course before the race and it is just stunning and wild. walking through the grassy section i felt like i was a million miles away from civilization. i’m so glad we did that as i really didn’t have an opportunity to see anything during the race.

i was worried about there being tons of screaming kids everywhere, but the place was really quiet.

the race was great. i couldn’t believe all the volunteers that were out there. they were awesome.

i was worried about the course being really crowded, but i found it worked out pretty well. i was in one of the earlier waves and felt no congestion on the bike course. only got passed by one group of 10 or so riders…easy to just let them go.

run course got a bit crazy by my third lap, but it still worked surprisingly well given the fact that there really wasn’t any ‘open’ road. i really felt for the volunteers on the run as i bet they must have been feeling a bit overwhelmed with sooo many people coming thru all at once.

i’d rate the entire experience for me as a 9.5/10.

thanks to everyone involved!

Great comments and you summed up my feeling well too. The bike course seemed to be a lot more on Disney property, and often was 2 full lanes wide, which gave no excuse to draft. Kudos Tom, the standard got higher.
