Another sunglasses thread

Well I should start by saying I’m pretty much sold on Oakleys. I used to wear gas-station type cheapies, but the first time I experienced the sticky nose/ears and the sharp, high-contrast lenses, I couldn’t go back.

I’m replacing my splices, which were recently stolen, and I’m seriously considering one of the xmetal frames for my all-around plus running/cycling wear. I want one pair for everything, and I just don’t dig the 80’s/Ted Nugent look of the M-frames or other wraparound styles. After all, I shaved my mullet a whole year ago.

Anyway, the xmetal (juliets in particular) fit my head well and I’m hoping still seal around my eyes well enough for sports. Besides being retardedly expensive, is there a good reason not to try to use a style-based frame for athletics? I know they’re heavier, but with the perfectly designed nosepieces, I couldn’t get them to move around at the store, even with a lot of jumping and shaking (yes, I regularly look that dumb).

I know folks are going to recommend the half-jackets, but I don’t like the look as well, and they don’t seem to fit quite right either. The splices I had before were actually pretty close to perfection for me, but I thought it a bit boring to go out and buy the exact same thing.

One more thing: anyone use the VR28 black iridium lense? It’s high contrast and high light transmission. I think it might be great for those in-the-woods mtb rides, but is it too clear for bright sun?

nothing at all?

Well, I’ve never used the x-metals (but if you buy me a pair I’ll post a review.)

I like Oakley’s. I’ve currently got a pair of the racing Jackets. (I bought them before they really got popular in the tri-crowd.) I’ll keep wearing them, but I’m looking for something a little more unique. If you like the x-metal, you may want to try the zero’s. Same basic visuals, only lighter, and not so metal.

If you liked the Splice, you may want to try the Valve. It’s newer, different, and nobody else has them yet.

My insight.

Bear in mid the XMetals are primarily fashion glasses and not intended for sport/functional use. I have threee pairs of RX X-Metals for casual/fashion wear and all my sport specific glasses are plastic ones such as Half Jacket XLJ or XX’s (twenties).
