I just heard that PowerBar has released a “low-carb” Atkins style bar - wtf?!?!
I thought that their slogan (or one of them) was “PowerBar delivers energy to working muscles”. The energy that working muscles require is carbohydrates!
I know that they are just jumping on the bandwagon to avoid a loss of sales revenue, but how dumb do they think their customers are? They already have a post-workout protein bar.
Atkins is a joke - get off your fat ass and do some exercise! (rant off)

The impact of the whole Atkins thing is extraordinary. Despite the fact that it is a complete and total farce, it has had an unfortunate and profound impact on the food business in North America:
The parent company for Catelli Pasta has had to seek Bankruptcy protection and they are practically giving pasta away at the grocery store these days. I am sure saving on my food bills
Several of the large bakeries in North America(Weston’s for one) have had to close a number of large bakeries and lay off hundreds of workers
In PEI, Canada( The key Potato growing area), farmers are giving away potatos or plowing them back into their fields.
It’s a sad comment on our soceity that people can be sucked into such dubious dietary and nutritional information.
I saw C2 in my Mum’s fridge and just about blew my stack!
I had heard about the Castelli and PEI potato farmer stories as well - what a joke.
The truly scary thing about Atkins - the reason that it has been successful is that Americans are obsessed with losing weight, but unwilling to accept what doctors and health officials have been saying for years - excercise and eat right. Everybody is looking for a quick fix, and this is just the latest in a long line of bullshit “diets”.
I am constantly amazed by people who ask me how I stay so thin. My reply - follow me around for a week and you’ll find out - I spend more time exercising than I spend in front of the tv - what a shocking concept!
