Out of shape? That’s me. I’m in for this. That’ll give me a month and a half or so to “prep” for it. Hello Torrey Pines.
Didn’t Plumb organize it last year?
How about NOT the weekend after the Carlsbad marathon (Jan 15) this time?

To appease the North Eastern types, suffering in jealousy under a blanket of snow and ice while the SoCal studs do Palomar, I’ll hold the second annual ST Whiteface Mtn Hill climb on the long weekend in July.
The first edition was won by Triyoda, although we hope to jack up the field with some real studs to put the boots to him this year.

I am in !

If you are going to make any reference to 6 hours, on this board, we all know that it is “6 hours per week” and you can still kick deBoom’s ass (sorry, I could not resist…of course, this now means that Mr. Larsen will fly down from Bend and hammer all you SoCal dudes…)

I’d be game depending upon the date. ANY ST’r have room for me to crash for the weekend? I don’t eat much and can live in a little, dark corner. I’m also pet friendly.
If slow is OK, I just might be able to make it down there.
I’m thinking we should do the weekend of Jan 21-22 as the following two weekends are the 1st races of the road season which several of us here will be racing.
Let’s see if Thierry is interested? Get him in shape and that dude can climb.
Does this mean yer actually learning how to ride your bike Jaylew??

Haha.
How’s NZ treating you?
You’ll be happy to know I finally ran for the 1st time in almost 6 months, yesterday.
Well cheese-n-rice Joe, I’m in. Well assuming that I’m not traveling. It’ll be more of a ride for me than a race. mwbyrd and co are putting 1:30 into me on hills that aren’t even two miles long. Mmmmm, me big fat fatty… Maybe I could convince some folks to ride from the coast. But I’m thinking that after the climb the real competition begins… anyone wanna try to best me at the blackjack table at Harrah’s??
What is the distance? Is there a group that rides it regularly. at 200# I’m no climber but it would be cool to see a 1 hour climb, I thought the 1-2 mile climbs were tough!
What’s the roads that’ll take me there, I’m headed to San Diego this Saturday and will be free to ride in the afternoon.
Regards,
SD
If you are riding, take bear valley parkway (just off the 15 at Via Rancho Parkway-many people park at Kit Carson park when doing this ride) to Lake Wolford Road, then go right on lake Wolford road (8 miles in). Go right on valley center road (16 miles in), then right on Highway 76 (aka south grade road-20 miles in-refuel at the liquor store by Jilbertos Taco Shop) and head on up (top is around 30 miles in).
If you are driving, take I-15 North to Highway 76…take that East, and it will take you up the mountain.

I’ll do that. I’m out of the running for any time awards anyway!

Yeah, I’d be down with that. I was kind of thinking of doing that boulevard race and maybe something out in vegas right around the end of January, which are both right around the end of Jan I think.
SuperDave, the climb according to the powertap and forerunner data I’ve had is 11.7 miles long and goes up about 4,200’. If you do it in an hour at 200lbs you could absolutely kill a flat TT.
If anybody has any connections to the local hot shot roadies/duathletes/triathletes, let em know, they’ll probably be some pretty fast times, like sub 60’, if the already confirmed riders show up.

Sub 60? Jesus, wasn’t your winning time from last year 1:07?
Who’s confirmed that’s sub 60?
July 4th weekend?
I mite be in. Dunno if 2 training trips to LP before IM is budget-able. I’ll try…
<< I’m out of shape as well, so I’m in too!
Suffering is kool!
this coming from the person who last year said:
<< Just ride from the base of the hill? Come on…start from Carlsbad or atleast Escondido and make it worth the travelers travel! I’d do it if we added some mileage. The tough part of this ride is not the hill itself, it’s the climb out of the valley after you’ve ridden to the top!! You boys are a bunch of skirts! ![]()
and then didn’t show up at all for the ride. Are you just bluffing us or are you going to show up this time?
