Another ST-SoCal Race Up Palomar In '06?

Just wondering. It was around this time last year people started talking about it, I think.

It’d be interesting to see… Will the PC girl show up this year? Will Dan show up and stick it to Plumb? What can a fit Kenny Souza really do up this climb? What can an out of shape Paul Thomas do up this climb? Will Gary Tingley’s dissapearance from the board pay off? Will Pooks and I average the same watts once again? Will we be able to sucker the Floyd Landis training camp (jan 21-27) into joining into the festivities? Somebody get Sperera to get some type of fundraiser going that hits home with Floyd, I want to race against that dude, even if it’s only for like 2 minutes. Will a triathlete, duathlete, or cyclist post the fastest time?Who will show the greatest increase in fitness compared to last year?Who will show the greatest loss of fitness compared to last year?Who really cares?

Anybody interested in getting this together again near the end of January? I ask now so if it’s a go I can get a little motivation knowing it’s on the calendar.

I said that I would be there last year and I missed it.

I want to be there this year.

I’m in…

I’m jealous, as always.

I’m there with about 10 from the shop club…when is it? should I start talking trash now or later, and how about who can clinb with the lightest bike cause only the lord knows that my fatass can’t climb with a heavy bike, and I’m not going to stop eating pizza…yet.

I’ll do it.

I’ll be the interloper. I’ll be living outside LA for Jan - Mar (until Ralph’s) doing my training in the warm weather… So I’m in.

LA in January/February isn’t warm enough for you?

What is this race? Are new STers allowed to join in?

I live outside of NYC. THAT is not warm enough…

Joe,

Though I’ve never done Palomar, I’m thinking about organizing a GMR TT, front side, from the gate to the wall in late Jan or early Feb. 8.75 miles at about 6%. I did this last year and we had a couple college kids go 36:xx. I’ll keep you posted.

Good ride Saturday. Email me and I’ll put you my list for weekend rides. Sawiris, Donia and I had a great ride today. 320w is becoming “tolerable”

Cheers,

I was there. The faster of the two, Chris Dubois, beat me by six seconds. Hopefully he’ll show up again if you put that on.

I had a good time Saturday. It was a good interval session between doing the foothill cyclery ride, and then your ride, and then the end of montrose. Saw a couple of the crucible folks on the trail Sunday and overheard one of them say “that’s that one guy.” Sweet, I’m now officially “that one guy.”

As for the person who asked if new ST’ers are allowed. YES. The idea is to get as many people out there as possible. It probably won’t happen until late January if we do it the same time as last year, which would seem to be the logical thing to do. And as for the trash talking somebody was asking about, it’s probably best to wait until a couple weeks out, but don’t let that stop you.

Someone over on biketechreview apparently just did Palomar at an average of 370 watts and weighs in at about 160lbs. That translates into a VERY fast time, like sub 55’ (edit - 58:15 as it turns out - heavy bike, and maybe a bit heavier than 160 on that day?) for sure if the meter was showing accurate wattage. Maybe that guy will show up too.

Then I really suck. I did Palomar two weekends ago in 1:15…

But then again, I didn’t realize my ‘little’ ring was a 42 until that ride (I bought my bike used and the owner swapped the 39 for a 42). I’m hoping when I switch it back to a 39 and that that will help some.

Argh. Chris DuBois? He was my nemesis this past year. Climbing superstar; he was putting up better times than some of the Cat 2’s in the conference. Good thing for me he couldn’t sprint to save his life. Too bad I’m out of college and back in the Bay Area. I might need to take a little “vacation” down to do the Palomar race/ride this time. Too bad I’m horribly behind in my training right now. I guess I’d better start losing weight now.

I’m out of shape (3 week old baby) and in.

Stan

Are we on the same roadie lingo about what “out of shape” really means? =)

Like the whole, “I haven’t been training hard.” -Only 6 hours a day instead of 8.

Get a date soon. I have to get my call schedule together…uh!..now…or this week. I wonl’t be ‘racing.’ I’m too old and fat, but I’ll go along for the climb, if possible.

woops, where did my reply go??? Oh well, that would be cool if the ol’ GMR t/t came back. I remember doing that a couple of times when it was an ABR santioned race and the Pomona stage race. Fun time!!!

I’m out of shape as well, so I’m in too! Suffering is kool!
