I thought that reading every Transition post on ST ever over the past few weeks would get me acquainted enough with these lovely brakes … Nope.
Rear brake. I’m not sure how to put it, so hopefully this makes sense…I can’t get the damn thing to center. It’s like the springs are uneven.
The only way to get the NDS brake (without the clip on part) not laying into the rim is to have the DS brake about 1cm off of the rim, about as far as it can go.
If i center by hand, then pull the brake lever, they reset in this same crooked fashion. When I move the barrel adjuster, only the NDS side moves into the rim, the DS doesn’t budge. Wtf.
They look centered, I have played with the cable, the allen keys on the triangle are centered…
Anybody?
Thx
the spring inside the brake that recenters the lever is probably jacked. It’s supposed to catch internally to prevent brake drag.
I had one brake warrantied out and the other one they just shipped to me. Upgrading from 2008 to 2009 brakes makes a big difference. If you don’t have some contrasting tabs on the brakes you probably have 2008s.
Personally I think the brakes make what would/could be a great bike just a good bike. Enough that I’d probably not buy another based upon the brakes.
Ugh. It’s on '08 Sworks Trans.
They are all red anodized, with a silver bullet looking part on each side.
get some 2009 or later brakes. Or some after market brakes that fit. I think the QR cd01 uses the same brakes and maybe the Jamis.
Rebuild the brakes. Regrease EVERYTHING. Start with both screws backed ALL THE WAY OFF. But from the sounds of things, you just need lube. I rebuilt my brakes on my Transition first thing. Use a really good lube and a LOT of it. They’ll work like a charm. Then make very small adjustments to the adjustment screws, starting with them all the way backed out.
Thanks for the response Jordan.
These brakes confuse me…
Do you want me to take the cable and allen bolts out of the triangle & lube all that up?
Or is there something else I should be taking apart also? Do I need to take off the silver caps & get into there for something?

I want you to take the brakes entirely apart. So there is nothing but two cantilever posts showing on the frame.
