Sen. Vitter (R-Louisiana) endorsed Giuliani for President, and (I believe) is his Southern Campaign Manager. A staunch proponent of the Defense of Marriage Act, he just admitted that he used the “services” of the so-called D.C. Madam:
’This was a very serious sin in my past for which I am, of course, completely responsible,‘’ Vitter said Monday in a printed statement. ‘’Several years ago, I asked for and received forgiveness from God and my wife in confession and marriage counseling. Out of respect for my family, I will keep my discussion of the matter there — with God and them. But I certainly offer my deep and sincere apologies to all I have disappointed and let down in any way.’’
In 2000, his wife, when asked if she would be as forgiving as Hillary Clinton if her husband were as unfaithful as Clinton or Livingston, responded
“I’m a lot more like Lorena Bobbitt than Hillary,” Wendy Vitter told Newhouse News. “If he does something like that, I’m walking away with one thing, and it’s not alimony, trust me.”
“I think fear is a very good motivating factor in a marriage,” she added. “Don’t put fear down.”
Apparently he’s also one of the most vociferous advocates of the constitutional ban on same-sex marriage, calling the active preservation of the institution of marriage on par with terrorism or large-scale natural disasters. Apparently not above a little hyperbole.
Evidently he doesn’t consider relationships with prostitutes to be a threat to marriage, at least not as much as two dudes getting it on.
Giuliani is sad for him. How ironic. This coming from the guy who called a press conference to tell everybody he was having an affair, and then got kicked out of Gracie Mansion. And yet the right-wing acolytes and pundits have no problem pouring on the sanctimony regarding their self-proclaimed moral superiority to the moral pulchritude of liberals. Fucking ridiculous.
** calling the active preservation of the institution of marriage on par with terrorism or large-scale natural disasters. Apparently not above a little hyperbole.**
Hyperbole? That’s understatement, regardless of how fallen the messenger is.
I’m confused…a guy who bangs hookers behind his wife’s back, but rants and raves that commited loyal, monogamous gay people should not be allowed to marry…and describes his so called defense of the institution of marriage, which he obviously has sooooo much respect for, as being more important than the nationalk security, and thats not hyperbole???
The man is a cheat and a shameless hypocrite that much is clear, as it seems are so many people who try to dictate their own narrow morality to the rest of us.
Time for government and clowns like this guy to get out of the marriage business.

You realize that just because “hypocrisy” sounds sort of like “hyperbole,” they mean different things, right?
I’m not picking a fight, I’m trying to answer your question. I realize it wasn’t directed at me, but I didn’t think you’d mind.
See, Matt, we can judge whether or not the statement is hyperbolic by looking at the statement itself, without any knowledge of the person who made the statement. Such knowledge really has no bearing at all on whether or not the statement is hyperbole or not.
On the other hand, we have to know a bit about him and his actions to determine whether or not the statement is hypocritical.
You might have noticed that your entire analysis was about his actions, not the internal logic of his expressed idea. Therefore, what you’re saying is that he’s a hypocrite. What you are not showing is that the statement is hyperbole. This is why I said that, “regardless of how fallen the messenger is,” the statement isn’t hyperbole, and why Tibbs agree with me.
Thus concludes today’s tutorial. Unless Tibbs wants to add something, of course.
