Another pro hit by car

Joszef Major, 2008 IM Az winner was struck by a car while training. The newsletter was a little sparse on the details, but he will evidently make a full recovery, but Kona plans are very up in the air.

Sucks. Every time I read a story, another triathlete or cyclist is getting hit by a vehicle. F’n cell phones.

John

Cell phones? He was on his phone on his bike and swayed in front of a car? That is harsh man.

(dont blame cell phones in cars unless you know that was in fact the case. I say it was a needle of Meth and a bottle of Boones Farm).

Best of luck to the injured, god speed in recovery.

Seriously sometimes these boards are a total downer. Every week its some guy drowning in a tri, or someone getting creamed by a car. Here in SoCal it seems like someone dies every week by a car and no one (besides cyclists) seems to really care. In fact you read the comments section on most of them and people will defend the driver, even if they’re drunk. Half the time the cops don’t even cite the driver, they probably high five him and go on thier merry way.

I seriously get tired of hearing about all this stuff, when I ride it doesn’t bug me but when is this country going to get some accountability and start throwing people off the roads for stupid stuff like DUI, multiple texting, etc. Rant off…

How about all the people driving on antidepressant medications! I’ve never seen so many people cross double yellow & white solid lines these days. Even running on the road is dangerous these days.

Due to the nature of the beast (ST Forum) you are going to hear about every case of a cyclist getting hit by a car. There probably is not any significant increase other then the fact that the internet and forums and any other media jumps all over each one, thus you hear about more then we used to.

Its a tough fact of our hobby that we risk getting hit by a car nearly everyday. Every sport has its dangers, ours is made a story by all kinds of media. I’m not saying its bad its just the way life is now that the entire world is connected by a computer.
