looking for new pedals and after looking at the numerous posts, i’m gonna ask again. i’m thinking of keo max 2’s, blades, or iclick’s would like to go with the xpresso’s but a little to much money right now. not a fan of speedplays. whats your opinion which one to get
New post gets my same old response! Shimano 105. Sorry they aren’t on your list.
I agree with the poster above. Shimano is the way to go! Most of the wrench-types I’ve talked to say that Shimano has the best pedal designs in the market. I personally love mine; both my bikes are Shimano pedals.
I have been on Time pedals since 1988. Well, I did ride Campy Record pedals for about three weeks in the mid 1990s before switching back to Time. I vote for the latest version of Time pedals. You can find deals on used ones that are cheap.
Shimano 105 Carbon pedals. Bling+practicality, what else could you ask for?
Upgraded from the Max 2’s to Blades for this upcoming season. Got a couple rides in on them so far, tough to feel much difference, but the weight/aero advantage sold me. Just my .02

I don’t think you can go wrong with Look or Shimano. A pedal is a pedal. Actually, it’s just a shoe clamp.
I have a pair of Look pedals that have been in service since around 1990 and a pair of Shimano (that uses the same cleat) that have been run hard since the mid 90’s.
I’m curious, why are you not a fan of Speeplay?
rode them on my friends bike, they just didnt feel right, the platform area. not sure why
Having had a catastrophic failure with Time pedals, I will never go back to them.
I currently ride Speedplays and I really like them. If I was starting over, I would probably look into getting a Shimano’s as everyone who I know that rides them really likes them.
Might be ST blasphemy, but Shimano pedals are easy to ride with regular shoes. I assume Look are the same.

That’s interesting. I had a near catastrophic incident in Speedplays(foot slipped out of pedal on a pretty technical bit in a century.) and now I’m rollin with the 105 Carbons.
I happened to keep the pedal for over a year and took a picture of it:
I understand the whole foot slipping out thing on the speedplays as I’ve had that happen when the cleats get old (for some reason going uphill).
Speedplay since forever (ten years). Lots of training rides and races without incident. Bought a second pair for the new bike last year.
Oh yeah. That’s a bit catastrophic… How were you after that happened?
Yeah. I ride my bike with old school Look 296 pedals all the time around town with sneakers. Very decent platform for bumming around
Remarkably just bruised on my inner right thigh. I say remarkably as it was during what I had pegged out as my “A” race, which happens to be El Tour de Tucson. We had just crossed the first wash, and turned onto Nogales, was up out of my saddle (hence the bruising) as everyone was starting to really get the acceleration going when it happened. Was going about 22MPH when it happened, had one guy behind me yelling at me in a string of nice vulgarities to hold my line (while I was trying not to crash).
The worst part about the whole experience, was that the 2 guys I did most of my training with both made platinum which meant I would have made platinum as well… Oh well, there’s always next time right?
Yep, always next time! Nice to hear you were ok
