Another Kona qualifying question

If you are in one age group for the qualifying race (say M35-39) but will turn 40 before the Kona race, which age group do you have to qualify in?

Thx…

The 40 age group.

( I think, but I was wrong in the other thread about something different. )

That would make sense but it would make it more difficult for the race directors, because they’d have to check everyone’s birthday. A 39yo qualifying at any of the summer races for the same year may or may not turn 40 by October.

Usualy, at a ‘qualifier’, they get you to put down your age ‘as of Dec 31 2005’ or ‘as of October XX 2005’…

Really, you shouldn’t have raced in the younger age-group in the qualifier if you were going to be older in the race you qualified for.

I’m pretty sure you qualify in the younger age group, but race Kona in the older age group.

You qualify in 35-39 and race in 40-44 @ Kona
.

You qualify based on your current age group, and race in Kona based on whatever agegroup you’ll be at that time.

29. I’m 24 and have qualified in the 20-24 age group category. However, my birthday falls prior to the Hawaii race date and I will be 25 by race time. In what age group category do I race in Hawaii?

Your age on race day determines the age-group category. Whatever your age is on race day, that is the age-group category you must race in. For example: If you have qualified for Kona at age 24 and earn a slot in the 20-24 age-group BUT you have a birthday prior to Kona’s race date and become 25 before race day, you will race Kona in the 25-29 age-group category. The rule is you race the age-group category of your actual age on the day of the event.
