Another Grand Jury Verdict. Where are the "protesters"?

I was curious about this case that was discussed earlier in the lavender room. Looks like (IMO) the Grand Jury made the correct decision here as well.

How come people aren’t protesting this?

Quick recap: Police execute “no knock” raid on man’s home at 5 AM, entering house unannounced through a bedroom window. Man thinks criminals are breaking in to his house and shoots, “to protect himself and his pregnant girlfirend.” Kills one police officer, injures another. Man is arrested and charged with murder. Grand Jury is convened and eventually decides not to indict man. Seems like the right decision was made here as well.

Why would people protest this?

My thought as well.

Why would people protest this?

Why are people protesting the case we are talking about?

Why are people protesting the case we are talking about?

Perhaps, despite the underlying facts, it’s a community that largely feels, rightly or wrongly, marginalized and that justice is dependent on who the alleged victims and perpetrators are. Add in some political and criminal opportunists, and it’s not that difficult to see and understand the reaction.

Understood. But we don’t try people based on past events or even on concurrent, yet unrelated events. We try them based on the facts of the case.

I’d guess that most of the protesters don’t know the facts they only feel outrage because a white cop shot a black “kid”.

You would never make it as an Obama Czar. Never let a good crisis go to waste.

Oh and it sounds like many of the witnesses once faced with facts admitted theywweren’t even there. That one made me shake my head. Talk about brainwashed.

Are the protesters conducting a trial??

Of course, we should only try people based on the facts of the case and not based on past events or for some greater good.

But I also think we should understand that a community’s reaction, it’s perception of justice, and it’s interpretation of the facts of the case, may be based on and highly influenced by their past experiences and perceptions.

It’s easy for someone outside to be objective. But the interesting question is why would someone either disregard the evidence, turn a blind eye to it, or just not care about it? I suspect a lot has to do with prior experiences and perceptions.

This might not be a perfect analogy, but I wonder if it can be compared to why someone who is very intelligent and educated might believe in a literal Biblical flood, despite the apparent absurdity of it that we might see.

Are the protesters conducting a trial??

It looks like there are two groups of people which aren’t that easy to distinguish, the looters/thieves and the protesters. Which group are you referring to?

They are quite easy to distinguish, protesters are called protesters and looters/thieves are called looters/thieves.

Are the protesters conducting a trial??

Yes, they’ve convicted the cop because he’s a white cop who shot a black guy.

That’s news to me. Where will he be serving his prison sentence?

Oh okay. Thanks for clearing that up! But what about those who are deaf or had muted the sound? How would they know?

I suppose that you’ve never heard of the court of public opinion and how their verdicts are not enforced.

Why would people protest this?

If they had half an ounce of brains in their heads, they wouldn’t protest this.

My point is, this is a situation where a black man shot a white cop but the Grand Jury did not find a reason to indict. It seems that, reading the stories surrounding this case, they came to the correct decision. Some people (police officers?) may not like the decision but I haven’t read any stories about protesting or looting as a result.

Nothing more.

Is this the same public that donated over $400,000 to Wilson or a different public?

Probably in his home because it will be too dangerous for him to go out. There has already been much talk of vigilante “justice” from people who are not happy with the verdict.

The officer’s life will never be the same because he had to defend himself against an out of control attacker (think if CNN used this phrase instead of “unarmed teen”). This all could have been avoided if the kid had behaved himself. Instead, the kid acted like a jackass and attacked a police officer. Brown lost his life and the officer will live with the consequences forever. Not a good outcome for anyone.

Your premise is ludicrous.
