Another "First HIM/First Race Report" - Vineman

I hadn’t planned on posting this here on ST, but was inspired by twack26’s report which I thoroughly enjoyed, so thought I throw this out there. When I was entertaining the idea of entering Vineman 70.3 as my first HIM I gleaned a lot of useful info from similar postings, so this is sorta me passing that along.

Like twack26 I had a number of family & friends that were interested in the report, so it’s pretty long with some basic info, but if you’re interested I’ve posted it here -

BTW, for those of you familiar with Vineman, a couple of other points…

  1. I absolutely LOVED everything about the race, including the organization, communication, people, volunteers, etc…would highly recommend it!

  2. This was a VERY good year to be 40! Men 40-41 was the 2nd start wave at 6:38 am, and the day turned out to be in the 90’s, so that was HUGE

  3. Was also very fortunate to start early because I figure that I beat the “falling oak” by about 20-30 minutes…very sorry about those that weren’t as lucky.

Thanks,

Jon

Jon - congratulations on your first race and your Half Mary PR to boot. Good stuff!

I still find it very weird that I would inspire anyone to do anything in this sport, but I am now really glad I posted my report. If you were like me, you must have felt like you were typing a novel, but that race report was awesome! I couldn’t stop reading it, even ignoring my favorite part of the Tour (ITT) to finish it. I felt like I was there with you, willing you to beat that time goal. I hope you are proud of your time, especially PR’ing your 1/2 mary after what looked like a really tough bike. Congrats.

Thanks twack, glad you enjoyed it…I enjoyed yours as well, and congrats to you.
