interested to see the details on this

He’s going to sue ST for saying his bike split was “sorry” too. Considering it was over 4min slower than the lead male and 30sec slower than lead female I think Herbert was right

This was news to me, but it centers around the representation on the USAT board and how much elite representation there should be. Jack Weiss argued in an editorial much earlier in the year that elites are only ‘required’ to have 20% representation according to the law. Victor Plata argued that 25% representation should be maintained.

Jarrod’s suit seems to be about this as well as the fact that elites were not allowed to vote on this decision. The elite election, when the general members voted, had a foul up in it, and was said to be invalid. So we were told that a new ballot would be sent to us later in the year to vote for our voting. As I think back now, the 2nd ballot that I received only had a vote for a representative on it…no vote about some of the other items that were on the original ballot: 25% vs 20% representation of elites on the board, Sunshine policy, change of status to a Colorado company (I think).

I did not write it. I just suggested that Jarrod should contact the source (Timothy Carlson) and correct him if indeed wrong.

Sorry Herbert I assumed you wrote everything

Great, now USAT will spend our membership dues on legal fees. I believe age groupers are the primary source of USAT income, and elites are way over-represented. Perhaps someone should point Jarrod to the Cry Like a Little Biaaatch thread.

Exactly what I was thinking.

But it sounds like the USAT board screwed up the initial ballot and then failed to rectify the situation as they said they would do. If that’s the case, then I can have some sympathy with the elites.

The wider issues seems to be the disfunction of the USAT board, especially if they have been suing each other for years as Slowman reported recently in the Jack Weiss/Ray Rice thread.

I was going to point out or highlight your last sentence as well.

Helps explain why USAT membership is of such little value. A pox on all of them.

So if you’re scoring at home:

Reduce the number of athlete representatives from the board: Lawsuit

Admit to abusing your spouse: Crickets.

It does seem that way. But that is not reality.

Strongly agree. What a wimp. If “sorry bike split” makes this guy that irate, I never want to meet him. What a tool.

The lawsuit and his sorry bike split are being covered in The Week in Pictures.

Very cute

Well done!

(cough) roidrage? (cough)

(stirring pot)

Lame. Its one thing to make fun of him gettin pissy about some journo’s opinion of his bike performance but i think its uncool to suggest steroids/doping just to, as you say, stir the pot. Maybe ok if you have proof of roid usage.

Anyway, I heard GSP was not impressed by his performance either.

I agree the election was completely screwed up, and that’s a problem. However, the three ballot measures all passed by margins of 2000+ votes. I’m guessing there are well under 1000 elites in the US? While they still should have been able to vote on the issues, there’s no way to argue that would have changed the outcome.

Which is why Shoemaker’s lawsuit strikes me as petty and sour grapes (he lost his own bid to represent the Florida region by a vote of 195 to 110).

It’s also interesting that within a day of the lawsuit being reported, he had a twitter meltdown and publicly lashed out at journalists. Perhaps he’s having a rough week, but at this point he does not seem to have the character to represent the USA in the 2016 olympics, regardless of his athletic accomplishments between now and then.
