Another downhill test: Helmets

I have to start this by saying that my wife is the absolute best. Last year I had shoulder surgery and she got me a Renn disc as a get well present. I took it over to a hill near our house on Long Island for a freewheel test against my Zipp 404 and the Renn blew it’s doors off going downhill with a tail wind. So now she got me a LG Prologue helmet for my birthday. I have been ogling these helmets for over a year without the nerve to get it. I took the bicyle over to the hill yesterday with the Prologue and my Specialized R1 helmet. There was a steady headwind at about 1 o’clock. I just freewheeld down the hill about a mile long. The Prologue was deffinately faster. I made two passes with each helmet. Prologue hit 31.5 mph on the first pass and 32 on the second. The Specialized hit 31 both times. I’ll have to pick my spots for this helmet, it’s a deffinate for a cool windy day, but it passed the test in my book.

Dude - you have an awesome wife…Does she have any available sisters?

Sweeney,

Plusses: 1. Looks super cool.

            2. Looks super FAST.

            3. Intimidation factor for those who don't have one.

Minuses: 1. It gets very hot when its warm outside!

Be sure not to forget yor head/sweatband. If you do, you will be blinded by all the sweat that runs down into your eyes. I’m only speaking from personal experience.

Michael, my wife says thank you for the compliment. She really is the best. I didn’t even tellyou about the half priced Kestrel Talon frame she got me when she bought her Talon SL. And Ben, here’s the way I see it. Pluses; 1, it’s faster 2, looks cool 3, will be great for the one ski, bike, run race I do (I can wear it for the ski and the bike) Minuses; 1, makes you look like a Lance wannabe 2, makes you a target, nobody will want to be beaten by the geek in the stupid helmet 3, nobody in this sport should be intimidated by someone else’s equipement, they should be looking straight ahead and hammering.

Sweeney,

Where did you get your wife, Michael? We should all be as fortunate as you to be “spoiled” by someone as generous and as sensitive as you maintain she is.

Congratulations and many years of wedded bliss! Take good care of her, I think they broke the mold after they made her.
