tragic.
interesting discussion on HN: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=6414354
a perspective that is not one i normally am exposed to with regard to this kind of topic.
Early news report and not the first time an accident has happened there.

This just plain sucks…horrible.
That part of Skyline is usually used after you climb Old la Honda and are taking the easy decent down to 84. It’s downhill (not super steep), but no one I know is at all reckless on it, since you’ve just done a 5k climb and the hard work is done.
Back in April, a lady killed a cyclist on my favorite road: Usery Mountain Road in Mesa, AZ. And then she killed another guy at the corner of Ellsworth and McKellips
As triathletes/cyclists our outrage is temporary: Grieve for a moment and vow to stay safe and that’s pretty much it…
Not One More put up a “Ghost Cycle” monument where this lady was killed but Mesa took it down.
The lady who killed that rider supposedly had a ‘mini-stroke’ and they took her to a Hospital in Scottsdale
That’s basically it. She’s probably sitting in her home in Prescott sipping on glass of pinot.
I will watch this bitch until she’s convicted, but AZ will throw in some compassion language.
You are never really outraged about dead cyclists until you see what the murderer’s get away with.

I’ve done that stretch of Skyline several times after the Old La Honda climb. I can say exactly what you are saying that no one is usually in hammerfest mode at that point. It just sound like bad timing. I can see how a car would not see a cyclist coming down Skyline in that area. Really sorry to hear about this.
A HS acquaintance posted this story on FB and implored “us” to use bike paths because that’s what they’re there for. He’s a DB.

It pisses me off when people take down crosses or ghost bikes, motorists may actually pay attention after seeing one (unlike the ‘Share the Road’ signs).
