I did a search but could not really find anything to answer my question. Can you use 10 speed bar end shifters if the rest of the set up is for 9 speed? Do I just need to be careful to not switch to the last gear or will I have to constantly adjust things to get it to work? Any info is appreciated.
No and yes. If they are Shimano they will work fine in friction mode - not in index mode however .
That is what I was afraid of. I would want them to work in index mode.

You can use a jtek shiftmate to make it work. I had one and it worked pretty well. But the best bet is just get the 9 speed shifters.
