Another bike frameset comparison: Felt DA vs Cervelo P2C

Just wondering what your views are on these 2 framesets. For me it will be a 51 P2C vs a 52 DA. I am comparing these 2 frames because they are approximately the same cost for me.

        Stack Reach

08 DA 50 40.5
08 P2C 48.2 40.5

Here are my thoughts.

  • both seem to have less than idiot-proof seatclamp tightening issues, though the P2C gets more nods for nose tilting down from a pothole.
  • DA has more durable matt finish
  • cervelo seatpost is *a lot *deeper. both are similar weight.
  • DA bayonet fork is quite fat (in terms of dimensions) actually, even compared to some old cervelo chord forks, and if i go with the P2C i will be using a blackwell time bandit instead of the 3T Funda. The bayonet fork is heavier too, by probably 300g+.
  • DA frame is lighter, ?nicer cable routing.
  • cervelo downtube is deeper, can use a lighter conventional stem.
  • i would like to use a handlebar with a 31.8 clamp but i can’t order the 31.8 clamp stem for the DA anywhere. (In the UK, Saddleback the UK distributor don’t have it and Felt USA won’t sell directly to consumers)
  • let’s just take it for granted that both frames are aerodynamically similar enough that we don’t have to argue about it.

Which would you choose?

I would/did choose in favor of the standard fork. I do all my own wrenching, and don’t/didn’t want to have to deal w/ a manufacturer-specific/non-standard front end. (KISS rules.)

p2 with 3t fork.

I chose a Felt B2 complete bike over the Cervelo P2 complete bike. For me it was a matter of geometry and spec(I won’t talk about that as it doesn’t relate to you).

The Felt’s 2cm of extra stack(less spacers), 1cm more BB drop, little longer FC.

If the Cervelo P2 had the taller geometry like it does in other sizes, it may have been a harder choice, especially since it was a little cheaper.

You may be able to use the front half of an Oval Concepts stem for a 31.8 option.

The cable routing is a plus especially if you do your own wrenching.

With the felt stem angled at its lowest point (slightly downward)i can get the stack within 1cm of where it would be with a P2C so the stack is not that big of an issue.

I wondered about the Oval Concepts stem but from what i understand the Oval stem uses 36splines which is compatible with the 07 DA stem but not the 08 DA stem. The 08 DA stem uses 45 splines and as far as i know there are no aftermarket adjustable stems that would fit it.

Having owned several cervelos before, i am well aware of how hard it is to pass gear cables through the downtube successfully if it’s a used cable with some kinks in it so i did wonder if this headtube routing might be better.

@GregX - i wanted to use a Blackwell fork because i race with a Hed3 up front and the 3T fork has just about the narrowest crown spacing i have ever seen.

Honestly, if i could get the DA to accept an OS stem the decision would be much easier.

Why not go with a Felt B12 and stick with the standard front end, but upgrade the fork to something more reasonably dimensioned? I have checked and the Reynolds Ouzo Pro Aero fits.
