I always wondered what the hell was so special about a Dura-ace 25th anniversary kit. I mean $1500 plus for an out of date kit in a fancy aluminum case… But now I’m selling a kit for a friend, brand spanking new kit.
First, the case is really really nice, not one of those cheapo aluminum display cases you sometimes get. The latches are soooo smooth, pathetic yes I know.
Open the lid and BLING, holy SH*T this stuff is shiny! God this kit is just stunning, set off in the custom box, gleaming like diamonds with bling “25” in gold on each part. Forget the new D-ace cranks, this old fashioned looking crank polished to a jewel like finish is to die for! A cool Seiko/Shimano watch and a letter explaining that yes oh Shimano worshipping cyclist, you now own one of the coolest collectors items around.
After our original skepticism before opening the box. My roommate and I literally stood there for 5 minutes looking at the kit drooling. No idea what you’d actually do with this kit. Mount it under glass maybe, open the case a few times a year and just take a peak. No way you could, gasp, actually ride this stuff, it’s soooo pretty. Well maybe on a nice Colnago or Pinarello…
well at least I’m not scrambling around like a friend of mine to fine Campy race wheels for a tri this weekend. Funny how so many expensive wheels seem to choose Shimano freehubs and cogsets;)
Seriously, this kit is downright gorgeous, total total total bling. Now if the cranks just kept on spinning when you stopped pedaling like a pair of cool spinner 22" chrome truck wheels, then we’d really be in business!
Ahhh, I misinterpreted this. I thought it was going to be about an anniversary gift your wife gave you, and that I along with scores of otherwise happily-married males would be covetous of your incredibly understanding and supportive spouse. Well, I’m happy for you anyhow. (And secretely thankful that I don’t have to begrudge my wife begrudging me my tri-related purchases!)
When I was a teenager, 20 years ago. I got a friend into cycling. His father went out and bought him a merckx frame outfitted with campy “gold” edition components… This was this kids first bike. I often wonder what the hell happend to this bike, for he only rode with me for 1 summer.
