Ankle Stretching for Freeestyle Kick ?s

I know that I can use bigger fins to try to stretch the ankle.

100% the best answer. (They don’t need to be all that big, but bigger than zoomers. Standard fins are fine.) Used regularly, I don’t think there’s anything that comes close to increasing ankle flexibility specific to swimming.

**I can relate to what your saying:**Whilst doing my PADI cert dives I remember being in great pain after having to fin across a pound with huge stiff fins, this was yrs before taking up swimming for triathlon.

But riddle me this V-man: when I started swimming I picked up a pair of regualr snorkel fins that I kept cutting inches off. They are now as long a pair of zoomers. But everytime I cut a chunk of the fin off I would feel on the tops of my feet at the ankle for awhile. Increase in ankle flexability?

You mean after swimming with the zoomer-length fins, you had some soreness on the tops of your feet? If so, then yeah, I guess they were helping to increase your ankle flexibility. Maybe the zoomers work for that as well as regular fins for some people. Not me, though.

Isn’t that the point of all our gear - aero helmets, speed laces, disc wheels, massive pool toy bags, laminated workouts, etc. etc…

Have you ever seen the clip of Triumph the insult comic dog covering all the star wars fans waiting outside for Episode II to open. Most of them were in complete makeup and outfits etc.

He went up to this guy dressed like a storm trooper, he asked the guy who he was suposed to be. guy replies: I am a storm trooper, Triumph immediately replied in the same voice: you are a giant dork…

that’s the exact voice I keep hearing in my head everytime somebody recommends another pool toy or a starp somethign else on to run or bike with…

"MONOFIN: I’ve seen those and remember reading an article about them but it’s just strikes me as one more thing to bring to the pool that screams “I AM THE ULTIMATE TRI-GEEK…BEHOLD AND FEAR MY HUGE BAG OF SWIM ‘TOOLS’”

I completely agree with you. BUT for an occasional thing, try to borrow one to do with some fly. There is absolutely nothing like it! You will launch out of the water like a dolphin on 'roids. It is simply great. (swim geek mode: off)
