I’m a high school cross country coach located in the tidewater region of Virginia. Our number 1 runner tore his Posterior Tib tendon while training on his own for the track season. He’s a sophomore with a very bright future, and both he and his parents are very nervous. They saw a great Dr. in Richmond (my all-time favorite), who recommended that they go to someone who specializes in ankles for the surgery. They are willing to do some driving in order to find the best Doctor. Running is his life.
Any recommendations on the best ankle doctor in the region between Northern North Carolina, The tidewater region of Virginia, Richmond, Northern Virginia, Southern Maryland, and Washington DC? We’re hoping that he can get this tendon repaired one time, slowly rehab it back into shape, and never have to go under the knife again.
Mark Meyerson is a friend and has operated on my left foot with good results. He’s had some health issues of late and is working at a reduced load. I have sent many patients with lower extremity issues to Tim Zimmer in Richmond with excellent results. In fact, one of my swimming partners went out of his way to thank me again for sending his wife to Dr. Zimmer who operated on both of her feet and she’s very satisfied. He’s at 804-320-2700 and has my unqualified support. Feel free to use my name. (My older son Chris was captain of both his HS Cross Country and Track teams and I’d let Dr. Zimmer operate on him.)
Good luck.
I went to Commonwealth Orthopedics in Alexandria for a knee injury, after a recommendation from a coworker, and a previous thread here. They have multiple offices in the Nova region, and most of their docs specialize in sports medicine/rehab, so it might be worth checking out.
In Charlottesville we always follow the recommendations of Dr. Bob Wilder. He is a great running doctor and all his answers are well researched and has a very strong following amongst all local runners. He is part of the UVA health system.
