Looks like a baby squirrel. We had one younger than that fall out of a tree and made a rescue. Warm box and baby formula. Probably a good chance it will die, but we took ours to work and parked it by the computer to keep warm and fed it on the hour for a few weeks. That is what me thinks it is. Good freeking luck. I have killed about a zillion animals our cat drags in half dead. Feel like a hero if it works, don’t feel bad if it does not.

Fuck…I am crying and in tears for some animal that I dont even know what it is…and Estee is oh so proud to have found it. I dont know what to do - its eyes are not even open.

I have a sick kid so I’m up… try this:

Chip, keep that thing warm, thats the most important thing for any baby. Try some cat milk or infant formula and just pet it lightly to sooth it. Mainly, though, keep it warm and if you can get it to drink anything with some nutritional value to it. I got a baby rabbit once, thats what I did for it.

It looks like a rabbit (newborn squirrels have longer legs).

Tons of resources online on how to care for it. Good luck!

Ooh I hope it lives, and it grows up to think it’s a person. A tame squirrel would be a sweet pet.

I think it is a miniature hippo from the looks of it.

LOL,

Hopefully it will be an historic save!

Yeah, I think it’s a rabbit as well. Most rodents would be much smaller. And the ears are a bit of a giveaway.

Exact same thing I was thinking… if Jim Carrey climbs out of its ass then you and I are going to look brilliant!!!

A lot of newborns (including humans) are just plain creepy.

Maybe a baby mole? I found a family of them while clearing some brush one day and they look similar to what you have there. I had no idea what to do with them either so I brought them to the local vet. I don’t know if they got flushed as soon as I left.

Damnit. That was my guess too. I thought I was gonna be all clever and lend a little levity to the situation.

Rabbit, if its not to late find the nest, Let your dog outside follow where it goes and that should lead you to the nest. Probably in a bunch of grass or weeds (flower garden). Then put rabbit back in nest. My dog gets a few every summer.

It does look like it could be a rabbit or squirrel…is there a wildlife reabilitation specialist there? Maybe you could call the Humane Society for their number? I have done that many times when I’ve found injured animals, and they really do try to save them. Now I know a girl who’s job it is and I call her. Definitely keep it warm (maybe a hot water bottle wrapped in a soft towel) while you’re trying to contact someone for help. Good luck, please post whether or not the baby is ok. I would be in tears, too!!!

That’s what I thought, too!

Take good care of it! Obviously, your heart is in the right place!!

And by warm, we mean 90-100F. An indoor summer temperature of 80F might feel warm to us but we are not newborns.

Definitely a rabbit.

But the hippo was a great guess. LOL

Find the nest if you can. Momma has a better chance of keeping it alive than you will.
