Angela Naeth Wins!

Angela continues to impress. Only gave up ~16 minutes and ~5 minutes the run to a former ProTour guy. Impressive early season form. I wonder if we’ll see her challenge Carfrae at Kona? In any case, she’s a refreshing newish face in IM, and easier on the eyes than 40-year-old dudes.

she is great. super personality and isn’t afraid to speak her mind. really hope she has a ton of success.

Great weekend for Canadian women. An ITU win and a 70.3 win. Have to love the Canadian women.

Congrats to her! great performance!

As much as I like the female ‘form’ let’s keep this to her performance…

She absolutely smashed that race today - and deserves alot more credit. Def going to be beating a few more of the super elite this year if she races that way.

Awesome effort.

I’m thrilled to see her win also, especially considering all those 2nd place showings last year.
Not sure she can win a IM worlds on her 1st try though

With her second 70.3 win, Naeth has arrived. That sick bike split (compared to everyone else) was backed up with a strong run. Very glad to see her coming into her own. Seems incredibly honest and has that killer instinct. IMHO, she needs a couple years before she’s a factor in Kona, but she will certainly be one.

Is she intending to move to the IM distance this year or keep the focus on halfs? Seems she still has some swimming to work on…
She gave a fantastic interview for Slowtwitch in 2011, hope she has a good season this year and that Herbert catches up with her again late in 2012.

I confess I have no idea…I just noticed all the people in Lance-gasm threads complaining about poor coverage of the women’s race while, ironically, this forum had zero coverage of the women’s race.

I agree she needs some work on both the swim and run to be truly competitive with the top tier. The conservative estimate is that Angela is at least another year away. But, on the other hand, the top tier of women’s IM looks a little shallow these days, particularly with Wellington taking the year off. Cave was 3rd at Kona, and, I know it’s February and IM and Kona are their own beasts, but Cave had nothin’ on Angela after T1 today.

I complained about the lack of women’s coverage… but I was too busy crying about Leanda’s burnout on the run to come in here. Also, I had my own swim to go do.
She’s a phenom on the bike though, and she’s still young. Plenty of time to really dominate at 70.3 if she’s not looking to move up to full distance for a while.

I’m mostly impressed by Kelly Williamson’s run. Only four male pros were faster (and only Bevan Docherty and Richie Cunningham that got the podium). Seriously, 1:16:18? Wow! That’s about 10 minutes off world record pace, after the bike and in real heat. World class.

She’s the only female pro I follow on Twitter.

I didn’t think she was planning on doing any full ironmans although I think she has done some very long races where the bike portion is extremely long (not sure what the name was).

She got alot of second places last year (third at quassy). Not sure if she has ever beaten Julie Dibens or Carfrae but those two are obviously her biggest threats at 70.3 distance.

She has defeated Carfrae twice.

I don’t know if she has defeated Dibens but lets wait and see if Dibens can recover from her foot injury before we declare her as one to beat in 2012. I hope she comes back but from what Dibens has said, it doesn’t look good.
