Andreas Niedring: couldn't agree more

A recent statement from Andreas Niedring, when discussing Roth, and I couldn’t agree more.

“Although the race is not an official Ironman any more, not much has changed for me as an athlete. I really do feel that age-group athletes are taken better care of here, there is no longer an assumption that you will have to pay more for everything because it has the Ironman label on it. To me, the Ironman label often means that age-group athletes are just ripped off. Of course, it is great to be in Hawaii for the race there, but I think that not enough attention is paid to the athletes because of the over-commercialisation."

Having done thirtheen ironman races, with two without the m-dot, I have found m-dot races to be more expensive, overhyped, and not necessarily better.

Interesting thoughts. I too have done over 10 Ironmans, but all were Mdot races. Did Roth in 1993 when it was an Mdot race, but I am sure that Detlef Kuhnel and his crew continue to put on a great show for age groupers as well as pros. Which non Mdot races did you do ?

i did embrum, which was so hard it’s unbelieveable, and roth a couple years ago. both were great experiences, but very different races. a 40k climb up the izoard…among a few other 10k climbs? it makes richter pass look like a toadstool that you can big ring.

Anyone know if Andreas book has been released in English yet? He said it would be released soon when we were in Hawaii in 2000, but still no sign of it on Borders listings.
