In watching the Tour de France on Versus I recall the incredible foible from last year of combingin championship barbeque (?) with bass fishing and Tour de France. Apparently some pages of demographic data got shuffled around to result in that programming line-up.
Well, I am pleased to say that Versus, the network that birngs us yanks their Tour coverage, is a little closer to nailing it this year. Between boradcasts of the Tour stages we’ve been treated to some truly outstanding vignettes of bull riding and cage fighting. They are just one step away fro the optimal prgram mix: let the bull loose in the cage with the guys fighting.
And require the guys to paint the bull with BBQ sauce, each with their own color. Winner is either the survivor or who gets the most sauce on the bull.
I think a pair of top MMA guys these days might do ok against the bull once they figure out some good bull submissions
.
Milk a cow and you have cream; milk a bull and you have a friend for life.
OK, that’s quite possibly the worst spelling and grammar of any post, ever.
You sure you’re the one that writes those editorials?
I was typing fast and those have their share of errors too…
I’m kind of pouty that no one even chuckled at my chicken/Colonel Sanders quip in the other thread.
I’ll shut up now.
I honestly have to say that watching the coverage this year on Versus, I feel like a guy who was at a nice quiet bar having a pint, when a busload of trashed Frat Boys showed up, put some Black Crowes on, and are now wrestling each other to see who buys the next round.
Between the extreme cagefighting, the Tour billboards complete with pileup after pileup, bloodshed, and broken bones, and the tagline, “Red, White, Black, and Blue Summer…” I feel like I want to quietly walk away and find the Eurosport feed in an Irish pub. Even if it’s David Duffield, I won’t have to hear about the pursuit of, “The next great mixed martial arts champion.” I didn’t know we needed one.
Does the Tour really belong on the same stage as World Extreme Cagefighting? Whiskey, Tango, Foxtrot? Don’t get me wrong - at least we get live coverage (I remember the 30 minute recaps from ESPN - 60 minutes if the stage was important…or even the 25-minute Wide World of Sports coverage!), but still.
How long can it last? This is a great Tour - are the advertisers watching?

- The Grass is Always Greener, no? *
What is wrong with MMA?
Another sport that requires power, endurance, and strategy, and includes significant risk of having your head cracked open.
=)
Nothing, I reckon. I just don’t get it. Seems kinda Roman Empire to me. Two men go in the cage, one comes out. Doesn’t seem like it should be sharing the stage with Le Tour; maybe on Spike TV, between “Animals Who Eat Babies” and “World’s Greatest Police Beat-Downs!”
Hurricane Bob
- Of course, I think America’s Cup racing is cool to watch… *
MMA kicks ass
Gotta love people beating!
So, what should share the stage?
running?
row boating?
Could be worse, could be on Lifetime.

Suppose Contador pulls off the win and it moves to Telemundo or UniVision?
"Él está alcanzando en la maleta de valor" o “Él ahora está usando la máscara del dolor”

The Boston Marathon is cool. I liked the NHL coverage, but I think I was one of 12 people in the US who watched (when I could). More bike racing, more Track and Field, more endurance sports! OLN was headed that way, but now the network is clearly headed in another direction. It’ll be interesting to see how it pans out.

You nailed it.

And what is wrong with the Black Crowes? ; )
Dude - Do not complain about the one TV station in America that is willing to broadcast 11+ hours of cycling a day during the Tour and does a decent job of cycling coverage the rest of the year. We used to get 1 60 minute show on each Sunday on CBS and it was preempted at times. Let them show what they want, they have to sell advertising and are still building viewership. The barbecue watchers are probably wondering why their station is being overrun by guys in Lycra riding bikes.

That is what TIVO is for. I record the morning programming and then at night just fast forward through the junk. It cuts down a 3 hour brodcast to about 1.5 and makes it managable to watch the whole thing.
