Anarchist Triathlon?

Has anyone ever heard of a “free” triathlon? The entry fees are getting ridiculous to the point I will not enter. $200 is just freaking ridiculous. Which got me thinking. There is a lake nearby. A running /cycling trail too. Why coudn’t a “free” triathlon or 1/2 tri be pulled off? Would there be liability? Would waivers need to be signed? If there were no prizes would anyone come? How many people do you think would have to volunteer to make this happen? Marketing etc etc? What do you think? BTW I live in Nor Cal.

Why is this in the Lavender Room?
Something this genious (and tsr inspired) needs to be in the Triathlon forum where people will actually read it. (Instead of just complaining about who you voted for.)

"Why is this in the Lavender Room? "

Exactly. This is an on post topic. Repost it to the main forum.

I placed it here because I wanted frank honest opinions which I know I will get. Tthanks for the input and I will repost.

This is in the lavendar room because it is a pipe dream. There is too much potential liability for this to work, except as a couple people doing a swim/bike/run workout. If you organize a race, and set up a route, then you have to make sure the route is safe, the water is safe, there are emergency services available, etc. I’m not saying a cheap tri isn’t a great idea, but free isn’t likely.

It’s draft legal, but there’s no finish line. All the aid stations serve salt water and dry crackers. The temperature is about 212F.
