Left his term with one of the lowest approval ratings in history, 24%, and had at one point in time been as low as 22%. He had embroiled the US in an unpopular war that had seen many US casualties, was currently stalemated, and no clear victory was in sight. The Supreme Court had called one of his actions unconstitutional. He created a secret spy agency by executive order, and was generally accused of abusing executive power.
I will say that I was happy that he finally commuted the sentences of Border Patrol Agents Ramos and Compean. It came very late and a full pardon would have been nice, but this is better than spending the next decade in prison.
I don’t prescribe to the notion that history will look kindly upon George W. Bush, as it did on Truman for the most part, but I guess the possibility does exist…
If only there was something positive to say about Bush that would make us not notice the negatives.
He meant well…?
Really? I don’t even think that is a correct statement.
I agree with that 100%. It's kind of like when you were in high school and dated this girl that kind of thought wouldn't be a good idea but you didn't really have any other prospects at the time. You dated her and it was horrible! Fought all the time, never listened do you, etc; just a complete nightmare and you never want to talk about it or even think about it. You just want it to disappear. The problem is that the nightmare has lasted 8 years.
I’m an Obama fan and of the other choices, I think that he was the best by far. I don’t expect him to live up to all of his campaign promises, but I want to see him to start to do stuff and I will be interested in his First 100 Days. Even though I voted for him, I have no issues criticizing him for things I think he has screwed up. I don’t expect him to be the Messiah or the Savior, but I think he brings a stark contrast to what we’ve seen in the last 8 years if not the last 30 years to the Presidency and I’m willing to see what he can do now.
Oh, and I can’t wait to watch The Daily Show tonight.
