Good size field. I like the one who goes off course and then comes back through the tape - I should try that someday to get a feel for what it’s like to break the tape!
I felt cold and miserable just watching that. Good video, but I like what I do. Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. I hate cold weather.
nice vid
.
I raced this year in SS on Sunday at 8am and was able to watch the Master’s 35’s on Saturday after practice laps (featured race in the vid). Unbelievably crazy conditions (they had a blizzard to boot). They ran out of coffee and hot chocolate Sat, and then b/c it was so cold, the machine wouldn’t work Sunday. Major bummer.
There was so much bike surfing going on, it was truly insane. The one segment that shows Mark McCormack crawling into the steps was a good example of how rutted and slippery it was where you just had to let the bike do it’s thing and not force the handling. Ground was rock solid, -5 with wind chill, and just painful for my race. It took 2 laps before I could feel my hands and toes; prior to that I just hoped I was braking when I wanted to b/c I couldn’t feel a thing. Hurt to breathe for a bit too. Nothing like a VO2 heart rate with -5F air. It was kind of like riding a jet ski, where the slower you go, the more you get bounced around by the waves. If you rode slow and tried to pick a line, you got hammered and went nowhere fast. If you went as fast as you could, you had a relatively smoother ride, but you’d better hope you could bike handle, b/c steering through a turn was merely a nice thought.
Still one of the funnest races I’ve done, but I’m not so sure I want to repeat that. Raced in snow 4 times this year, and that was hands down the most painful one.
God I can’t wait for the 2008 cross season to start…
“one of the funnest races I’ve done”
I love recalling my “funnest” races ever! ![]()

Awesome vid. Hope Sacha doesn’t see what you said above before he builds your bike. ;}

LOL - I don’t imagine that Sacha is the jealous type…
man that looks so fun! i need to get a piece of that next fall!
I miss cross season. Of course here in CA its not nearly so darn cold.
You might find the conversation regarding the NAHB show on the roadbikereview, cyclocross forum to be interesting. Sacha and Richard expressing thoughts on the business. I found it fascinating. This might get you there:

In addition to building legendary bikes, Richard is a thoughtful, interesting, and entertaining guy (the slowman of the HB world?). (But at the end of the thread, the french stuff went right over my head. Will need to get oldest daughter to interpret for me.)
Thanks for your photos by the way, finally caught up and saw them yesterday.
