Not really impressed with everything he had to say.
“I said before the war in February that if we invade Iraq, this will serve primarily the interests of two people: Osama bin Laden, because it will make Iraq safe for al Qaeda, and it will allow him to have access to kill Americans, which he cannot do in the U.S. very effectively”
I guess Sept 11 wasn’t very effective in his mind? Plus, the Americans he encounters in Iraq are heavily armed and trained Americans.
While he is probably correct on a few points, the main gist of his article, that we should just cut and run, is to me folly of the most extreme. Were we to leave now, we would have to go back and clean up an Afghanistan-like mess years from now.
Gee, cutting and running did so well for Lebanon, Magadishu (sp?), the African embassy bombings, Kobar Towers, the USS Cole and the first World Trade Center bombing. Why not Iraq?
Just curious, what did he say before the war in Afghanistan?
Question for ya, Martin…did you read and agree with what the general had to say, or did you just post this because somebody from the military disagreed with President Bush?
Do you think that maybe the reason they can’t kill American’s over here might relate to the whining in the intercepted letter from al-Zarqawi where he complains about the loss of many key leaders, the resignation of defeat in Afghanistan, disruption of communication and funding sources, and begs for money because he is running out?
Must say I am kind of shocked that we have different views in this country. Pretty much thought we all felt alike about things. How is it in your neck of the woods?
