Another aspect to this is that Amino Vital seems to have usurped the integrity of Triathlete magazine a few months back. Although we are often given bad information on “scientific” studies in this sport, this article was beyond simply being fallacious, it was an outright scam. I believe it was the Feb. or March issue (I dont have it in front of me), and the article contained numerous factual errors and misleading info on the role of proteins in our bodies. To top it off, directly following the article, there was a large advertisement for AV. This upset me because I pay my subscription for useful articles and not thinly veiled advertisements.
“so, any particular USAT board member responsible for all this? R U telling your customers who it is they ought to vote for instead?
“
Hmmm, Dan, don’t any of your readers read? ![]()
I guess I’ll play straight man for you. In the USAT BOD election candidate statements, Mr. Jim Girand stated “ I was instrumental in employing a strategic sponsorship consultant who secured the mutually beneficial Amino Vital contract. I will find more fine companies who will make a long-term commitment to USAT.” Candidate Western Region
Also, when the Amino vittles thread came up a few weeks ago, a spanking brand new poster, Tri27, posted all of 4 time on June 1 and 2, singing the accolades of Amino Vital, but also sounding horribly off key. I was convinced that the person writing as Tri27 was not who they made themselves out to be. I am still most curious to know his identity.
Lastly, and correct me if I am wrong, but hasn’t Gatorade been around forever in the triathlon scene? Isn’t that the definition of a long-term commitment? Is there something I missed, or that I don’t know as to why Gatorade went away other than the Amino Vittles business?

Useful articles in the triathlete magazines? when?
Interesting tangent came in the mail today, namely the July/August issue of USA Triathlon Times. I noticed this afternoon that there was a single column wide, 7 line blurb under the news heading of “USOC Panel Issues Decision”. It directs the reader to the USAT website where the decision can be reviewed in full. It struck me as kind of curious this afternoon as this was all there was to read about a fairly significant event in the life of USAT, while the rest of the issue had what seems to be a phenomenal number of photos of the pro race in Honolulu (diversionary tactic?). But now, I just have to comment on the full page add for Amino vittles on the back page of the issue. Nothing like geometry to give one perspective: two square inches on the USAT governing body crisis, 116 sq inches on a sponsor that very few members care for.
Interesting that everyone’s up in arms about AV now. I posted a concern about AV before before caliman:
http://forum.slowtwitch.com/gforum.cgi?post=113289;search_string=letter%20to%20J%26A;#113289
I also sent that to Andrew Robles, the RD of Caliman, and the resonse from Andrew was basically that I was the only one that had expressed any concern about this to him. I predicted that nobody would drink the stuff, and that the special needs would be chaos as everyone would be carrying and refilling with their own stuff. I’m glad to hear that I wasn’t the only one concerned about this, even though I was apparently the only one to voice my concern before the race.
Andew, when you read this thread (I will forward this link to him via e-mail) can you please let us know how your decision to switch to AV was in the best interest of the athletes? My opinion is still that this stuff is not fit for consumption in any endurance event. I’d sooner drink defizzed beer than this nonsense.

I wasn’t aware the sale of that publication’s integrity was such a recent event. It seemed to have taken place much earlier from my perspective.

Wrong magazine, then. But I guess that’s another thread, eh?
