Associated Press reports *250 killed *this past month in drug related combat in the region of the Mexico/U.S. border. That suggests it is safer for our kids to go to Spring Break in Iraq or Afghanistan than it is for them to go to Mexico.
News agencies report combat style assaults by Mexican “hit teams” disguised as police in the U.S. The State Department issued travel warnings last week as did several private intelligence sources.
Iraq and Afghanistan get the headlines, but this is an enormous and seemingly uncheck problem.
It’s really out-of-hand. I bet almost all the drugs are bought and consumed by Americans & Canadians. I also bet these gangs have their fingers in many pots in the black and grey market.
Studying recent Columbia history (70s to today) would be telling.
This part is interesting:
“In a measure of that commitment, a Phoenix gun dealer goes on trial next week on charges he sold hundreds of weapons, including AK-47 assault rifles, to smugglers knowing they would send them to a powerful cartel in Sinaloa state on Mexico’s Pacific coast”
I know you asked this of Tom, but I thought you might be interested to know that my own response is absolutely yes.
Of course, as always, I would expect people who choose to use them to be personally responsible for any and all consequences resulting from their choice.
Huge question. I’ll have to think about that.
Shouldn’t take too long. The “War on Drugs” has caused more human misery, by several orders of magnitude, than the (ab)use of drugs in this country.

You know, drug gangs fighting and killing each other, I have no problem with. Unfortunately it does not happen in a vacuum, and there is rising amounts of spillover violence, so we’re left to deal with it.
