American Idol Season 8

Anyone watching it this year?

Any early favorites?

Not yet. * *I watched every episode, right from the beginning, last year but I just couldn’t make myself do *that *again. My wife still does, though, and she says it promises to be a good year. I’ll start watching when they begin the weekly real deal sing-offs.

I would rather tune in to a Obama town meeting then watch that crap.

Hahahahahahaha! I didn’t say *why *I tuned in to watch it. For me, it’s akin to the thrill one gets from watching two steam engine-driven trains run headon into each other in one of those old 20s *Perils of *Pauline-type silent movies. You see the train wreck coming, some part of you wants to shout out in concern…but the other part’s secretly hoping for a colossal smash-up.

I can live with that

i’ve watched a little and my favorite is already gone: Frankie, the little Amy Winehouse wannabe.

the unfavorite so far is that annoying bitch with the long dark hair, who cries and screams. i want to throw a brick through the television when she comes on, i have to change the channel. she should have been booted, it’s a disater.

the guy who lost his wife is good, but there seems to be some good ones. i like the show, but it really turned me off to see how Simon was to Frankie. that was un-necessary, IMO. Paula seems less drunk this year, which takes away some of the comedy.

I’m watching! My sentimental fav will be the guy from Milwaukee who lost his wife. Not sure he’ll win, but he’s good.

My attention at this point of the season, though, is centered on the new judge, Kara. Mmmm…fine lookin’ woman!!!

I just hope Tatiana is one of the first to get booted.

yes, Tatiana…she is awful!

I’d also like to see that dweeb with the stupid headbands in his hair get booted ASAP. I can’t recall his name but he’s the skinny kid that spends more time crying and whining than he does singing and he doesn’t do that very well. I can’t understand why he or Tatiana are still there.
As for early favs…I like the Robert Downey look-alike that lost his wife and I also like the oil rig guy. I think they both a have something that can be honed into a singing career.
I’m just ready for all this prelim crap to be done and lets get down to the final 10 and Game On!

They purposely keep in some people who have obvious sub-par musical talent, but limitless drama & train-wreck potential, such as:

Tatiana - we all need someone on the show to loath and hate
Norman Gentle - comedy side-show act
Dweeb hairband gay guy that cries a lot - lots of drama/train-wreck potential
Plus other assorted no talent first-month vote-off chum fodder.

Idol deliberately downplays the people with the real potential in the early stages, and concentrates on the drama queens. As usual, I suspect that we really haven’t seen much of what will become most of the real front-runners (top 10) of the show. They are milking the no-talents for all they’re worth before they have to finally cut them loose.

.

Tatiana and headband guy actually do have reasonably nice voices underneath the histronics, though I think Nathaniel would be better off in the long run if he got in touch with Adam’s agent and went the Broadway chorus boy route instead of tried to be a pop star.

There’s no way either of them will or should win, but I find both of them more interesting than the guy with the dead wife who looks like Robery Downey that everyone seems to be fawning over.

Oh c’mon. She makes the show worth watching. How she has managed to stay on this long must be the work of the producers.

I haven’t caught much of it this year, Tuesday night is usually Biggest Loser night (sad but true) but when I get tired of the drama on that show I switch to American Idol (for some of that drama). I am partial to the two women from Minnesota, Casey Carlson and Jessica Langseth. I know several people who had heard Jessica sing in various venues around Minneapolis that say she is a lot better then what she comes across on the show. She isn’t as good as her brother (Johnny Lang) but she has a lot of talent.

I agree with everything you said.

I really like the oil rig guy and the welder. They are neat people but they won’t win. They might make it pretty far just for sentimental reasons.

His version of Disturbia was pretty good.
He needs to get his emotions in check though.

Norman Gentle is interesting. I want to see him do well and I don’t know why.

As for early favs…I like the Robert Downey look-alike that lost his wife and I also like the oil rig guy<<

These are my two faves also.

I really liked Frankie a lot, too, and was pretty bummed to see her get booted last night.

I watch it with my kids. Half watching for talent and half waiting for a train wreck like Tatiana and head band guy. My instincts are that some of the best voices haven’t even been shown on the show yet.

the girl that sounds like Janis Joplin is interesting and I can’t wait to hear her do some more songs. The cute young black girl and the “robert downey jr” guy will go a long way I think.

I watch it with my kids.

Its OK, you are among friends. You can admit you make your kids watch it as a cover for your own addiction. We understand.
