American Classic hubs on Zipp 404s

A Canadian dealer builds Zipp 404s with AC hubs, and sells them for much cheaper than with Zipp hubs. Since the advantage of these wheels seems to be the light weight and aero rims, is this a down side?

Any opinions?

American Classic make great hubs…I have a set of Zipp 404’s with those hubs that I bought from the same Canadian dealer that I think you are talking about and they are great, I’ve used my wheels very little (1 Ironman) but two friends of mine had theirs for over 4 years and they are still going strong and still super smooth…mine are actually for sale now too since I am getting a KM40 and going back to 650c wheels
.

I will buy those wheels off you for, ummmm… let me see… (rummage through pockets)… $3.47, a stick of gum, my eternal gratefulness (valued at $12.50), and some lint

American Classic has been doing that for several years, I’ve sold about a bazillion. The main side effect is that you get a better wheel.

You can probably save even more money by buying the American Classic 58mm deep V carbon wheelset. It’s basically a Zipp rim with an AC hub, it just doesn’t have the Zipp name on it.

What flavour gum

Where do they sell these? That link doesn’t work for me.

Thanks,

For some reason that I can’t explain, the price for the Zipps is less; $999 Canadian, or $799 US, vs $1299 for the AC 58 set and $1299 US for the Zipps with Zipp hubs. The retailer is Endurosport, which is based in Toronto, and it’s a high quality place; their showroom is an absolute pee-your-pants wonderland.

I haven’t seen them in any of the LBS’s, but American Classic sells direct off their website.

That’s a pretty sweet deal for Zipps. I’d jump all over that.

Where can I buy those zipps for $799??? Is there a web site? Phone number? Or do you have to stop by the store to get that deal?

I am selling my Zipps for 1050 Canadian plus shipping and that includes TUFO tubular tires and brand new Zipp titanium skewers. If you’re interested email me at jasonpretty@roadrunner.nf.net. They are Shimano 9 speed compatible and have less than 500 kms on them, I have lots of pics if anyone wants to see them.

I’ve ordered mine.
