America speaks out against bullies this week

When politicians claim to be speaking for Americans, it raises a red flag for me. However, this week it appears that large numbers of Americans spoke out against bullies.

First, while they said it was about an investigation, everyone knew why the Komen Foundation tried to drop Planned Parenthood from funds that allow it to provide breast cancer screenings. America’s outcry was loud and clear.

Second, anti-gay activists tried to bully JCPenny into dropping a popular corporate spokesperson. And America spoke again, in support of the retailer for standing up against bigotry and hatred.

Congratulations America! Keep up the good work.

Now, let’s enjoy a good football game. And, if you’re watching, “Audi, our best defense against vampires.”

If we are so concerned about bullies than why do we put rules in place that severely punish our children for standing up to them. When I was in grade school, if bully started a fight with you and you fought back, he would get 3 - 5 days out of school suspension which would effectively fail him for the year. But if you defended yourself, you got 3 - 5 days of in-school suspension that still counted as unexcused absences. So you would effectively fail for the year to. Well a bully probably doesn’t care if they fail. In fact, many of the bullies I remember as kids failed a grade or two anyways and eventually dropped out. But I thought twice about defending myself on school grounds.

How is a 3-5 day suspension failing for the year? Honest question.

In my school system, Virginia Beach Public Schools, 3 unexcused absences in a year or semester, I can’t remember, was automatic failure for the year. One of those zero tolerance policies. Suspension of any form whether in school or out of school was considered an unexcused absence.

I agree that’s excessive. My school system was different.

It is my understanding from people I know who attended other schools in Virginia, that that was pretty standard across the state. And is here in FL to.

I’m calling BS. Three UA’s does not and did not equal failure…in any state…ever. Hell, here in GA they don’t even get DFCS involved until 10.

Odd definition of bullying you got there.

There are union people in my town holding up banners IN FRONT OF PEOPLE’S HOUSES. They’re holding up 15ft long banners that say “shame on NAME of person” and in smaller letters “labor dispute”. In one case they are protesting the attorney of a bank president. They want to unionize the bank. The attorney is the personal attorney of the bank pres. They yell at his kids.

That’s bullying.

Had to google the jcpenny thing to know what you were talking about. People really went after Ellen? That’s just dumb. Ellen is the epitome of harmless.

You are confusing America with a small percentage with political power based on fear and the fear of being called something because you might not agree with their way of life. Welcome to the PC universe.

Congratulations on joining the lemmings.

I’m recalling from over 15years ago. I remembered it being harsh, but looking at the current policy, I might have been wrong. But I do remember it being harsher than this. But than again, I did not read the policy back then, I got most of my info from teachers trying to keep us in line. For instance, I was told iss was an unexcused absence. I even questioned that logic and was told it was. As you can see I was misinformed, assuming no changes. My experience tells me rules get tougher, not easier. Either way defending ones self is still punished with in school suspension. So the original point is still valid. Our society discourages us from defending ourselves. Part of the conditioning. I linked the current policies below.

While that is unacceptable behavior, if a majority of bank staff vote to certify the bank has to deal with a union.

Yeah, the supreme court recently told the feds that they could pound sand, when they tried to dictate who churches could hire and fire. This last Sunday, there was a letter read to millions of Catholics when they were at mass, stating the church would not go along with the latest govt attempts to force them to pay for birth control through their insurance. It will be interesting to see how this one turns out, but it's good to see them stand up to a bully (the govt, in this case).

Congratulations on joining the lemmings.

You calling Fatmouse a lemming is a bit ironic, though I’ll admit that you are more of a parrot than a lemming.

These are Teamsters. They pick businesses they think should be union or (more often) businesses that are doing construction or remodels with non union contractors. These are not people that work at the companies (and now individuals) they are protesting.

I’ve had union guys show up at my job sites “asking” me if I’d like to unionize. Just out of the blue. I’m waiting for the banners to show up at my house.

I thought his post was about real bullying, a chance to show solidarity, support and tolerance for gay kids, geeks, or the misunderstood who get beat up by real bullies.

Instead, it is a cheap liberal bullshit trick that trivializes and demeans the suffering that the real victims of real bullies have to deal with on a day to day basis.

The only effective way to deal with a bully is violence. Had a really bad bully when I was in elementary school. For 2 years he made my life hell until one day I had enough and jumped him and got the shit beat out of me. I jumped him the next day and while I still got my ass kicked I did get into some really good hits and busted his lip. When I tried to jump him a third time he promised to leave me alone if I never talked to him. We went through middle school and high school together and never spoke a word to each other. It was great.

People think bullies are scared people who are acting out to cover up their fear but the facts are a bully is a coward with an over developed ego. Violence works because being a coward they only want the power and getting stood up to takes my backbone then they have the time to show.

Congratulations on joining the lemmings.

Opinions vary and thankfully yours doesnt matter.

And right back at ya big guy. If only we could turn what you thought you knew into fuel we wouldnt have to worry about buying oil anymore.

You were in grade school only 15 years ago? That explains a lot.

And what is that supposed to mean? In two years I can be president. I’m not a some little kid.

The only effective way to deal with a bully is violence

Come on, do you really think violence is the answer? If your story is true, and I am not saying it is, all you did was let the bully move on to the next target. How about telling a teacher or a counselor? You know, the people trained to deal with the situation. They have a place for bullies these days and it’s not the public school system. Things have changed a bit and it is taken quite seriously.
