"Amazon.com Inc. today released a Kindle e-book reader for Apple Inc.'s iPhone and iPod Touch, broadening the market for its e-book outlet and giving Kindle readers another way of reading e-books.
The free application, which is available on Apple’s App Store, allows readers to automatically synchronize e-books and bookmarks with their Kindle or Kindle 2 e-book readers. The feature is designed to allow readers to continue reading their e-books when they don’t have their Kindles with them."
only if you are in the US (of course, this stuff pisses me off to no end, i can order books, dvds, cds, whatever from all over the world, but the second they are converted to itunes/kindle nope, not allowed to do that, grrr)
.
I just put it on my phone and downloaded a few books onto it. Page turning works by a horizontal finger swipe, a standard gesture on an iphone. Text can be resized, but you can’t use the pinch-in and pinch-out gestures that are commonly used for zooming out and zooming in. Tables and images do not appear to be resizable, as they do not resize with the surrounding text, a major annoyance and something that ought to be fixed.
Annoyances and interface deviations aside, since my phone is almost always with me but my kindle is usually not, it’s nice to have a portable library with me.
