The reporter asks him if Contador is someone who we can trust. Johan pretty much dodges the question by stating Contador has a lot of talent, Johan has been aware of Contador since he was 18, and that Contador will be the next great Champion. He really doesn’t say anything like, “Contador is clean and you can certainly trust him.” Perhaps I am reading into it way too much. Take a listen for yourself. What do you think?
David Lieberman’s book *Never Be Lied to Again *would suggest that that’s a pretty damning non-answer.
LOL…Johan was wearing his dancing shoes. He got nowhere close to answering the reporter’s question.
Johan’s a good dancer, he learned the Texas Two-Step years ago.
Whether Contador is clean or not, I think it would be foolish for him, or any other DS, to say someone is clean given the current controversy. Better to answer (non-answer) like a politician.

Does anyone blame him?? I mean really, these DS guys have got to clam up right now, because they all know they could be next. Did you hear George’s interview this morning?? THey have to keep it as bland and off subject as possible, and I’m sure they are just dreading every leaked rumor that hits the papers. They just have to be praying, Not one of my guys, Pleeesseee>>>>
I wouldn’t answer that quesiton either. No matter what Bruyneel may think, the truth is he has no freakin’ idea who is clean and who isn’t. Not with certainty anyway. The last thing Discover needs (especially while negotiating with a new sponsor) is for Bruyneel to say “Yes, definitely, he’s clean” only to be proven wrong tomorrow or next week.

From a PR standpoint, I disagree with that. Believing that your riders are clean and stating so (even if proven wrong later) is better than people thinking you know (or have a suspicion) your riders aren’t clean and you’re covering for them.
get a frigg’in life man. you guys need to get out of the cubicles and go swim, bike, or run and return to reality.
…right
.
Why couldn’t JB say: “All my riders tested negative, All my riders swore they were clean, All my riders told me they were clean, I believe my riders.” I think this statement would protect him and not be dodging the question (as I think he did).
Yeah, I was surprised at first at his answer to that question when I saw the interview on Velonews. Then, I realized just why is such a good director - that was as good an answer, complete with tap dancing, never fazed him as could be said. There is really no way to answer that correctly right now as others have said.
The truth is he knows exactly wether his riders are clean or not…
Axel
