I use mixed-from-powder Gatorade in my bottles while bicycling. When I’m done I rinse them once and put them in the dishwasher (hot water/hot dry cycle). My “chemist” friend says I’m poisoning myself because toxins are released from the plastic by the heat. When I use them again they’re cool and dry. The bottles are the French Zefel brand. Am I poisoning myself? Any chemists/biochemists in the audience? Thanks.
You have more to worry about from sun exposure/skin cancer during your ride than you do from a toxin from your bottle.
No problem. Yes, the plasticizers are released and that release is accelerated by heat and yes as you point out that’s whith the bottle OPEN in the DW where the plasticizer doesn’t get into your drink.
No need to worry about drink that you mix and drink the same day. Where you need to worry is with bottled water at the store that’s been sitting in the bottle in a hot warehouse for several weeks or months. DO NOT drink store-bought bottled water. Buy a good home water filter and bottle your own - filter it, bottle it and drink it the same day.
Probably and, oh jeez, I am right there with you! I hope the plastic on my toothbrush is not killing me…or even worse, that plastic cup lid on my Starbuck’s…that would really suck!
Based on the Tony Parker thread, your biggest concern should be the water bottles you are using are French and may limit your cycling peformance, but should improve your three-point shooting and help with landing a Desperate Housewives star.

.
Millions of things can kill you; fortunately, only one of those things eventually will. Chances are it won’t be the water bottle.
How many times have you eaten food from the microwave straight out of a tupperware container? Same bad idea.

actually, its more likely to be some combination of many of those things. We’ll just never know which ones.
I second the performance issue. Be careful, the French may be infusing synthetic testosterone into the plastic, causing the testosterone to be released slowly. you may find a variance in your epitestosterone levels. DO NOT let a french lab run any tests on you.
your bottles should be fine. I don’t even hardly clean mine, so I’m sure yours are 10x safer than mine are.
Thanks for all of the reports, guys. I feel much better about the bottles. Now, about my plastic iced tea making machine…
Not poisoning you. But it is highly estrogenic. So you’re going to grow man-boobs…
