Am i overtrained, plateau-ed or just a wuss?

I was out riding today and had a really crappy ride. No energy, little motivation, that kind of thing, not riding things cleanly like i normally would have (on my MTB). I cant decide if this is due to being overtrained, or from being off the bike a few days. I’ve been riding a ton this summer and have gotten alot better, but it seems like i’ve gotten worse over the past week or so. Here’s what my training plan (if you could call it that) looks like:

Ride: 4-5 days/week, 2-4 hours at a time (mtb)

Run: 3-4 days/week 1-2 hours on trails

Lift/Yoga: 3 days/week.

I often work out twice a day, but try to eat very healthy and get about 7 hours of sleep/night. I’m thinking I’m probably overtrained since my riding is falling off, i haven’t been able to sleep as well lately, and i’ve been grumpy and moody the past week or so. Should i just push thru, cut back some, or what? thanks for the advice!

Do you do anything else other than work and train? Take a few days off and go and do something else with your friends and come back to the training.

Sounds like when I ride the MTB with a hangover - it can be dangerous. A germinating infection could also play around with your balance, mental state, and your energy levels too. Either that, or as suggested above, try something different for a while, especially if you have been training all year. Everyone needs a break even though it is the thick of the season it still be the best thing.

Since it’s summer, I’m not taking any classes. I’m just going working out in the morning, going to work, and then riding at night after work. I think I may take about a week off once classes start back to hang out w/ friends and recover from this summer. I’m just frustrated since my learning curve is starting to slow down. Thanks for the advice ya’ll.

I would suggest taking a couple days off, then start back with some shorter rides and runs and see how you do. I find that a little rest is good for the soul and the body. Also suggested was infection. That could cause those feelings as well. Nutrition and hydration need to be looked at too. But, first thing, just rest for a few days. Sleep in, go to work, go out with friends or just hang at home and paint your toenails! It will do wonders for you!

Good luck!

Overtrained…um…no.

Overworked, maybe. Take a day or two off. Sometimes natural body rythms just don’t lend themselves to a good workout. Recognizing that not every workout feels like heaven is one of the signs of an experienced athlete.

Occasionally I go through long bouts of not wanting to train. When that happens I stop and return to one or two of my other hobbies. Sooner or later the desire comes back. Always has. Expect it always will.

don’t wait to take a week off. do it now or else you’ll burn yourself even more. there are plenty of other activities to do that can provide you new stimulation, or you can just rest. it looks to me that your schedule has been pretty heavy for training.

rest is the best medicine.

get long and chill.walk a trail in the bollock forest with your wits about you as you stride sister. be at one with doctor geofery g karma baby and lie with the one that strides your tiny obliques and refine the crest of your brown splendour…thats it…mmm all the way.thats it.

Sorry to disappoint ya gunther, but i’m a dude. However, if you’re into that kinda thing, party on (just dont expect me to join ya! )

This only adds up to maybe 25 to 30 hours of working out per week.

I can’t imagine how you would burn out on that. I vote for wus.

I have to go pass out now. Hearing about workouts like that is a big strain.
