Alright, JenHS, here is what I want

i now am in possession of an iphone. i LOVE the iphone. unfortunately, i have a non-negotiable need, and that is for this phone to function over my chrysler uconnect in-car hands-free system. so…

as you might know, i have long been a vocal apple proponent. i’m typing this on one of many apple computers i own, networked throughout the compound via apple extreme enabled wifi repeated via apple express repeaters.

i’d like to know:

  1. what the problem with the apple iphone operating system is as regards the uconnect unconnectivity; and a projected time frame for fixing it; or

  2. an understanding that this is not a priority for apple, and not to expect a fix.

either is okay, this will let me know whether i can keep my iphone and wait for the fix to come; or, that i can reluctantly return my iphone for a blackberry and that’s that.

can you help me get this answer?

If you want an answer you should offer to sponsor her Ultraman Canada Relay team. :wink:

I’ll see what I can dig up.

First, I need to know what model and year your car is.

FWIW:

.

i’m in a 2006 chrysler 300 hemi. but i’m also getting a new uconnect system installed aftermarket in my dodge ram 2500 pickup next week. thankee…

So what is exactly the problem? Does it not pair? Does it drop calls? Is it seeing it but not playing music?

Damn, are you buying carbon credits!

Do you find it funny that an ex-Microsoft contractor is solving problems related to an Apple O/S? Bill would not care, but Steve might give you the “blackball”.

"but Steve might give you the “blackball”.

Is that what he has?

Nah, I’ve always been an Apple person. My husband and I have iPhones, I’ve had every version of iPod since they first came out, we have a Macbook and we both learned how to use a computer on a Mac SE and a Mac Plus. We only went to Microsoft because they paid us.

I knew it!

Whatever he has, he’s scary. Just sayin’.

There is debate on the support forums that iPhone update 2.2.1 fixes it. Some have said yes, some said no.

Check to see what version of the iPhone software you are running.

Settings → General → About, Version.

If it is 2.2, go into iTunes and upgrade to 2.2.1. If you need help with that let me know.

it is 2.2. i see the download at:

http://www.apple.com/iphone/softwareupdate/

i’ll try that download. if you can give me a link to the discussion in particular you see, that would be great.

i found a dodge forum that says 2.2.1 fixes the issue. good get, JenHS. let’s see if this does it. if it does NOT fix the problem, at least it seems like apple is on the right track. maybe i’ll keep this baby and cross my fingers i can find relief.

btw, it seems like a lot of people have thought / do think that the problem is contacts / address books. as this iphone is free of such things, perhaps if i just keep it free then i won’t have these problems. i’ll gladly sacrifice contacts if i get everything else out of both the iphone and uconnect.

A quick mention can be found here:

On a Dodge Challenger forum:

A few other places.

It won’t hurt to upgrade the phone and if it fixes it, Awesome!

If it doesn’t work, I’ll keep looking.

yeah, i found the challenger forum. you’re the bomb. you’re ex-apple? i wonder if apple knows how important you are for them, now that you don’t work there anymore? :wink:

I’m actually ex-Microsoft :slight_smile:

I really really hope this works. When are you going to try it?

this morning i successfully:

  1. downloaded 2.2.1 to my iphone;
  2. paired my iphone with uconnect in my chrysler;
  3. made a telephone call with all appropriate reception, clarity, etc.;
  4. made a ringtone of guns ‘n roses’ sweet child o’ mine and set it up on my iphone.

i can now die a happy man. thank you so much.

Can you explain how the Microsoft Sync in my Ford works? I am blown away by that bit of tech.
