To which part? The timing? The reasoning? The check amount? All of the above?
This whole situation with the NFL is ridiculous. NFL Countdown on ESPN is an absolute comedy show right now. LOL! Preach it Ray! Preach it Ray! Don’t cry Chris Carter, don’t cry. Oh my goodness. Wow.
The fact that he’s getting paid 7 times my annual salary for sitting on his couch and watching a football game for a few hours.

There are probably 30-40M people in the US that are getting paid pretty close to my annual salary each year for sitting on the couch. Not sure why this is an issue.

I changed the channel as soon as Lewis opened his yapper. What a fucking shit-show. ESPN has very little credibility in this whole thing as long as they put that guy up front to talk about leadership and doing the right thing.

It’s not an issue as in, “Somebody needs to change this right this minute!”
It’s just a WTF moment when it’s laid out so starkly that these guys, some of whom are borderline imbeciles, are making 7 times my salary on a given afternoon. And the WTF is reinforced when the guy getting paid is getting paid to sit on his couch because he allegedly beat his girlfriend.
We really have fucked up priorities.
Yeah, I agree. And, just a minute ago, Chris Carter said while referring to Adrian Peterson that he was a very good person, and yet, minutes earlier, he was calling for the NFL to be pioneers and “kick 'em all out” and how all these guys are ruining the privilege to play in the NFL and how he had to make such sacrifices for that privilege and blah blah and blah blah and so on. Idiots. Who do these guys think they are talking to about beliefs, values, and morals? And, who is listening? Equally foolish. It is the same as housewives watching Oprah at 4pm to get their values and belief system, except it is a bunch of fat dudes.
Ray Lewis, Michael Vick, Ray Rice, Adrian Petersen…just a few of the reasons why I don’t watch the NFL. I suggest everyone else stop watching, too.
You make that much?

FTFY. I really hate ESPN. And it bothers me that they keep expanding and absorbing more and more prime sporting events. I have started to use their website less and less because I am sick of their agenda driven reporting.
We really have fucked up priorities.
Well, there it is. I can’t even watch the NFL and my interest in CFB is waning. How we have come to idolize and make entitled monsters of humans that are pieces of sh*t as people is an interesting social experiment. There are so few JJ Watts’ out there.

His compensation during time out is immaterial, as you know. It’s all about the public perception of the NFL Doing The Right Thing.

That really upset me also. the Tv was just on while I was doing other things. Hearing him talk made me go over to turn it off and take a nice long walk. I’m not sure if it’s a result of getting older, but every year I watch less and less of any sports on tv.
You are the one watching it…effectively paying his salary. When he’s watching you on TV then I guess you guys can earn the same.
He will most likely be broke in 3 years if that makes you feel better.

That’s quite an assumption on your part. I’m not, in fact, watching the Panthers game.
When he’s watching you on TV then I guess you guys can earn the same.
Yeah, what do I know, I guess it makes sense that a 6th round pick who was convicted for beating his girlfriend and threatening to kill her should make millions of dollars while people like the rest of us make relatively little. I mean what am I contributing, other than 20 years or so of service defending the country.
I’ve said it before, people are fucking stupid.
Maybe we shouldn’t be so quick to accept the idea that one’s salary is representative of one’s value.
Well, I guess there’s actual value, and perceived value.
Regardless, that dumbass beats his girlfriend, runs around knocking other guys down while they fight over and inflatable ball, and he gets to take home more than 7 times as much compensation as I make in a year, just in this afternoon sitting on the couch, allowing him to live (if he was smart enough to do so) a significantly more comfortable life.
It seems that Americans perceive his value as being that much greater than mine or yours.
It seems that Americans perceive his value as being that much greater than mine or yours.
I don’t think that’s true, though. He gets paid more, that’s all. It doesn’t mean Americans at large value football players more than military officers. It just means football players get paid more.
Well, it’s certainly more complicated than a direct comparison. I’m sure that if you asked the average American, they would claim to value a doctor, or teacher, or servicemembers more. But the bottom line is that we’re willing to fork over our money for these guys, and not for those positions that we claim to value.
In fact, many people have to be told, and even forced to pay for those things through taxes. And there’s no end to the complaining we’ll do about our tax burden.
