I’m planning on competing in long course worlds in Almere, Holland at the end of August. Does someone who has competed there know what the range of water temps. might be for that time of year? Thanks.
When I raced there in 2004 it was fairly cold. I didn’t feel bad while swimming, but knew towards the end that I might have been in trouble if I had not been wearing a neoprene swimcap. Race day was calm, but the day before there was a strong wind whipping up big waves, yet there was no talk of possibly cancelling the swim if conditions did not improve, so be ready for any conditions. You can probably still find my report on xtri.com .
The last 3 years I’ve raced in Almere and water temperatures always have been between 21 and 23 degrees Celsius. So a wetsuit is highly recommended ![]()
Best regards,
Cor (living in Almere, the Netherlands)
Temperature is normally between 20°C and 23°C but the gusty winds last year were tricky and caused waves of approx. 30-40cm.
