All's well that end's well ... New P3 Hotness

This is soooooo 2006 I know, but here is a photo of the new Cervelo P3, replacement for my stolen P3 (aluminum). Despite the fact that it’s no longer the cutting edge of tech and I could never justify the price bump, based on performance over it’s own little brother the P2 … I am in love. I feel like a new parent who instantly bonds with their infant child the first time they pick 'em up … I opened the box, performed the minimal assembly required (it was totally like christmas), and there she was … all mine! Huge thanks to everyone who responded with support when my old bike was stolen (I had offers for loans, for bikes, for help finding my bike, and even a free TSR ride) , and especially to ATC who worked with me on getting the new hotness - Adam, this wouldn’t have happened without you!http://i44.tinypic.com/wbw3li.jpg

I TOTALLY just made a “Grammy” speech … sorry bout that, I’m a little excited!

That was fast good for you.

Level your painting please

Home owner insurance? Or out of pocket?

Homeowner’s (yay Allstate!), took care of the majority of the cost, based on “replacement” value though there was some negotiation there … I do have a $1000 deductible. I ended up a little less than that out of pocket, and have been making it up by selling my 650c race wheels, etc. I’ll be riding this year on the stock wheels this year but I certainly can’t complain how this has all worked out.

I’m pretty sure that’s distortion from my crappy camera … sigh

… ok, maybe not … damn!

Very nice! It’s always hard to lose a bike, but when that’s your replacement it’s a little easier to swallow.

Plug up that hole in the seatpost, I think I read somewhere that you lose about 15 minutes/40k like that.

Pretty bike. Congratulations.

Now one thing you seriously need to do is cut some of that steer tube off that’s above the stem. From what I understand, that can be a dangerous thing. If you used the 3T for insert and star nut, I’m sure your stem is clamped too far down for the insert to provide the reinforcement it’s intended to provide. If you used a compression plug, it’s probably even worse. Get that steer tube cut down properly before you ride. I sincerely hope you haven’t glued the insert into the fork as it’s pictured there.

Bob

what is that…a 48cm frame??? Looks like my old BMX bike.

its a 54!

umm … none of the above … bike came out of the box with the fork in the headtube. i just slid on the stem and tightened enough for the photo. I havent’ put on pedals or set it up for my dimensions …

… according to info I found on the 3T Funda on Cervelo’s website, the insert is 75mm long, which is how much steerer tube there is above the headset spacer. Thus, I should be able to clamp the stem where it is without crushing the steerer tube … I’ll just have to insert the star nut deeper if i cut the steerer to my ideal size. The insert is not necessary to prevent shear, only to prevent the steerer from crushing the tube.

Thanks for the shout out, Tom. Keep this one inside! Let me know how the first ride goes.

Your seat’s too high.

I’m glad you’re happy to have the new ride but that is one boring ass bike.

Ken

Ps. I own a 2008 P3C and 2008 Soloist Team. They’re great bikes but boring.

I’m installing grey look pedals as well …

You could probably get a gray saddle as well!

those lines need to be parallel
.

my floor slopes downhill in that direction.

That’s great to hear.
Now ride it hard!

If you do want a Grey Saddle, I have a used Fizik Arione Tri 2 that is the Grey and Black model. I just switched to Specialized. Fizik didn’t fit my wide sit bones too well. Anyway, if you’re interested, drop me a line. The seat probably has about 25 rides on it and is structurally perfect. The little painted logo has begun to rub off, but thats inevitable. BTW, nice bike. ATC is great and they’ve helped me immensely in the past.
