Seeking the wisdom of this forum. I’m having a bike built with Shimano 11 speed drivetrain. I have a set of carbon race wheels with Powertap G3 10 speed freehub body. Was wondering what are my options (if any) of getting a set of 11 speed alloy training wheels with 15mm axle freehub body, so I can easily do the switch like this? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K5F56lmd9mE
Or would I need to get a specific Powertap freehub body?
If you are hoping to pop the freehub body off your training wheel and put it on another wheel, that other wheel will need to be a powertap hub as well. Generation 2 and 3 use the same freehub.
There are probably other hubs with pop-off freehub bodies though. I’m not sure what you are trying to accomplish.
Thanks! Yes, was hoping I can pop the freehub body off the training wheel and put it on the Powertap race wheels whenever I want to use the Powertap race wheels. But it looks like buying a separate Powertap freehub body with 11 speed would be the way to go.
yep, and then you can switch between 10 and 11 speed real easy if you have another bike or wanted to loan it to a friend. Just keep both freehubs around with cassettes on them.
