All the ways I was wrong

I have doing a lot of learning over the last 3 years. I have freed myself of a lot of self imposed bullshit and committed myself to only two thing. The pursuit of wealth and the pursuit of happiness. I am going after money by trying to break from this backwater town like a Mexican heading for the border and my pursuit of happiness by learning everything I can about everything I can think of. Name a subject and odds are I am dying to learn about it. So what has this gotten me? An annoying case of having to admit I was wrong. It seems the act of pulling your head out of your ass isn’t as fun as everyone makes it out to be. Here is a list of some of things I was wrong about.

!. immigration- I used to be a close up the border guy and now I am open borders.

  1. The second Iraq war- I was a war nut at the beginning and now feel like a real asshole for supporting this exercise in stupidity.

  2. George Bush Jr.- Never thought he would be great but thought he was ok and I now know that he is a piece of shit.

  3. The selfless giving to others was the key to happiness (my biggest mistake) and now realize you gotta take care of number 1 before you can even think about helping someone else.

This is just a small list but man does it suck to have to realize it to myself. Anyone else?

It is good to admit when you are wrong. None of us is always right. For example, I thought GWB was dumber but nicer than his dad. I was only half right.

On your current mission, I can save you some time. Except for people with very little of it, money does not bring greater happiness. It just changes what you talk and worry about.

Money does not bring greater happiness by itself. It’s the opportunity that money brings that can bring greater happiness. For example half of my after tax income is taken from me. I make $6 an hour. I can make no attempt to change this until I get a lawyer. Lawyers want money, a lot of it. See my point. It is very much in my interest to go balls to the wall in pursuit of wealth.

Hey, don’t feel bad. Life is a dynamic and changing process. We all change our opinions. Would be an even more miserable world if nobody ever did.

Hey, sorry. That does suck. Good luck – seriously. (I am a lawyer and understate the financial pain of having to use the legal system to rectify a wrong).

None of us is always right.

You are soooooo wrong about that.

Except for Vitus. He might be always right but I am always sexy.

Hey! congrats on number 1.
If you are ever in LA, the tacos are on me… :stuck_out_tongue:

You are one sexy motha f*ckah, Mr. Tibbs!!!

Most people are afraid of wealth. It is never apparent, until you talk to people. They afraid of the work that it will take, they are afraid of what life changes could happen, etc. etc. No, I am not wealthy, but I have been learning about this mentality.

People will try to guilt you into screwing yourself. Most of the people who will guilt you into screwing yourself are richer than you, and the only way they got rich is by guilting people into screwing themselves. You can get rich by not guilting people into screwing themselves. I got guilted into screwing myself not long ago once again. This was in a work environment.

Looking out for #1 is probably one of the most selfless things to do. If you can’t take care of you, how the hell can you be a good husband, father, worker, or whatever?

What have I been wrong about? I am uncertain, only because my laundry list of how I was wrong could take up too many pages.

Tibbs, I applaud your efforts.

For me, the single most important thing in your life is your relationship with spouse and then family and friends. Nothing else comes close.

I have not been wrong about that but didn’t always get it.

Your relationships are the most important thing no doubt about it. What I learned is when you try sooo hard to be all things to everyone you care about you end up with piles of lies, self hate and angry people who can not trust you. Like the P3 for example. I got rid of it make someone else happy and in the process pissed off a ton of great people who at one time thought well of me. If I would have stood my ground and said “No we will find the money for a car else where. This means the world to me.” I might be in a different place right or at the very least have an easier time with my life right now.

It’s that impossible balance of take care of yourself but balancing it with not getting too greedy and helping others. I am finding even though that balance is impossible the harder you try for it the better your life is.

Tibbsy–Watch “The Secret” and learn about the Law of Attraction. This is the single best piece of advice you will ever be given. You may conclude it is BS without ever attempting to employ the affirmations but that would be your loss.

I see your point. Never ever research, reflect, question and change beliefs. Stick to how you have always been and never ever change a thing about you not matter how shitty it makes you. Change is bad and even if you get evidence that the changes you make are positive run quickly back to how you used to do things because he you may be wrong again.

Hey Tibbs put 3 and 4 together.
7?

Exactly. It makes you look wishy-washy. “I was for it before I was against it”. That kind of thing.

backwater town? I thought you lived in D/FW for some reason.

You sound like a Republican. (yuk yuk yuk) ; ^ )

Two years ago I had to move 80 minutes out of the D/FW area. Yeah it’s only 80 minutes but I don’t have a car so it might as be up in Canada.

I used to be one. If I ever become Democrat I am begging my fellow gun nuts to track me down and shoot me.
