All-inclusive resorts...? Help

Looking for advice on a all-inclusive type resort. 2 adults/2 kids 12 & under. Looking at August.
Where can we look that our US dollar goes a long way?
Where should we avoid?
Passports a big deal with kids?
Etc.

They are practically giving away rooms in Playa Del Carmen and Cancun right now. Lots of nice places if you can deal with the risk of Mexico.

Cancun area is fairly safe. If you’re into scuba definately go to Cozumel rather than Cancun. If you want more quiet than Cancun go further south down the Yucatan penninsula.

Hey. Come on down here. We’ll put you up and feed you. Cocktails every evening with "lil Audrey and Boudreaux; kid’s will be asleep at sundown as they can have fun all day picking up hay, mucking stalls and weeding in the gardens.

During the day we can have all kinds of rural fun - once the chores are done, of course.

But the food is good, the gin cold and the nights quiet…

Cool, we’ll sing Tumbling Tumbleweeds around the fire

check out applevacations.com for some great deals on Cancun area

I really really really want to go back!!

Hmmm…
Are there still risk traveling to Mexico, specifically Playa Del Carmen and Cancun (and the like)?

I’ve been to Cancun (twice), and Puerto Vallarta in the last year. There is very little risk traveling there. We stay in modest places and travel into the non-tourist areas to dine and shop in more authentic areas. No problema!

If you’re worried about the risks of Cancun, Cozumel is a safer choice. Since it’s an island, and right across the strait from Cancun, it’s easy for tourists to get to, but tends to have less crime. It’s beautiful too.

August puts you smack in the middle of peak hurricane season, and there are indicators that it could be a strong one. That time of year, if you’re thinking Caribbean, I wouldn’t go north of about Barbados in order to have the best odds of good weather.

I’d probably explore the idea of Western all-inclusive dude ranch that time of year instead.

Did not think about hurricanes! Thanks!

we just spent spring break at Beaches Sandy Bay Jamaica. Booked for next year already. Beaches is owned by Sandals they have resorts all over.

Riviera Maya. Look at the Grand Occindental Resort at Xcartet. Amazing wild-life eco park and water park that connects to the resort.

My wife and I honeymooned there and when our kid is old enough to enjoy it we will return. There were lots of great day trips too. Mayan ruins at Chichen Itza, snorkel and SCUBA trips, boat dinners, etc. I put the links below.

That resort looks great and prices seem nice but the airfare kills the deal for us.

I’m totally biting off this thread - thanks for the links…

If you end up going to Chichen Itza, I would suggest paying a driver to take you there. We did this last Christmas, and it was awesome. You get there early, long before the busloads of tourists show up. We have pictuers where we are the only ones around, at El Castillo, etc. About the time we started to get ready to leave, it was wall-to-wall people. The cost is reasonable depending on the size of your party.

Kingston has several all-inclusive resorts and most are family friendly. Convenient location since you must land in Kingston.
