I thought that the Stinger disc didn’t fit the P4. How did Alexander The Great pull it off?
Because it’s faster at all yaw except 0 degrees. At least when I tested in my P4 against a Zipp 900 and Super 9 at A2.
No rider just bike and disc.
Curious if the Zipp 900 or the Super 9 was faster on your P4 at A2?
This post is the first I have ever seen where someone has actually tested a flat disc versus lenticular. The standard statement on the forum is that because of the P4 frame interface with the rear wheel a flat disc is the fastest or as fast. Originally stated by Gerard and often repeated by Jack Mott.
Would also be curious how much of a difference. Really appreciate it!
Yep. I have read that numerous times as well. I just never could quite believe it from my experiences using all of these discs over the last couple of years.
All I can say that on my P4 at A2, testing bike alone (2010 56cm P4 with HED Corsair aero bars with J-extensions) using a HED Stinger 9 on front for all runs…
I found that the Singer disc was faster than a Zipp 900 and Super 9 at yaw > 0 degrees. The Zipps discs were faster at 0 degrees for both. The Stinger disc’s advantage
was greater against the 900 than the Super 9 and its disadvantage at 0 degrees was less against the Zipp 900 than the Super 9. All wheels had a Vittoria 22mm crono tubular on them (the Zipps were not glued however as they were A2’s wheels and I brought a spare one with me) We only tested drive side from 0 to 15 degrees.
Data is on CD at home and will happily post it this evening after work and hopefully a ride.
I am not sponsored by either Zipp or HED but have had the opportunity to ride both of their rear discs extensively. These results just confirmed my subjective opinion when riding these discs.
Can not wait to get my Stingers into a P5.
Just simple test as time is an issue ($$$) and really needed to work on my position on bike. Only changed the disc and did the runs. Used the same tire a vittoria 22mm crono and all wheels. Did not match tire width to disc width. But that is the tire I prefer to ride so I was just testing a disc on my set up with the tire I use. Was not trying to answer the question for the world, I was just trying to make me on that bike as fast as possible. Answering the wheel
question seemed easy compared to getting me just right on the bike. I did have one of my best seasons ever this year my several personal bests on bike.
Any rough numbers of the difference? At maybe 7.5 degree yaw?
Ditto for my stinger disc in my P4, the only difference is drgarwood is much faster than I!
I hope the stinger will fit my Px!!!
ok went home and got some quick numbers for Stinger Disc vs Zipp Super 9
0 degrees : Stinger CdA 0.699 (aero watts 96W) vs Zipp Super 9 CdA 0.673 (aero watts 93W)
-5 degrees: Stinger 0.613 (84W) vs Zipp 0.635 (87W)
-10 degrees Stinger 0.577 (79W) vs Zipp 0.585 (80W)
-15 degrees Stinger 0.617 (85W) vs Zipp 0.644 (89W)
.
But you’re failing to make important assumptions. On ST, you have to start with the assumption that cervelo and zipp make the fastest products and filter all data to support that assumption.
Yes I believe Cervelo P4 is a very fast bike which is why I own one. I also believe that HED makes the best aero wheels available which is why I own them as well.
I tested the HED Stinger disc against the Zipps to validate my own personal subjective experiences riding these discs.
Not sure what assumptions I failed to make. I own a P4 wanted to see if a HED Stinger disc was indeed faster than a Zipp Super 9 and 900 disc as I believed
from riding them in my bike. It was, I was happy and I went fast this year and had several personal best rides.
could I have went faster on a Shiv with Zipp Super 9 (if it fits)…who knows maybe but I do not own one and will not own one.
I am going to assume that my Stinger disc is going to go real fast in the P5 when that comes out cause that will likely be my next frame sight unseen.
I’ll bet mrmoosey5 is not nearly as fast as drgarwood, no matter what he rides!!!
even though he seems quite witty…not
His comments were likely meant to be in pink
.
Missed the “pink” context on initial read. Shouldn’t work and play at same time.
In that case, I did make the correct assumptions then…I tested the fastest bike in the world with a HED Stinger disc and proved
the Stinger disc is indeed the fastest disc in said bike beating the previous ST gold standard Zipp disc.
I will pink it so not to be misunderstood and I need to get off this forum and get some work done ha ha
