THIS JUST IN

Ha, Ive seen that thrown around, about as accurate as my watch telling me I had the greatest sleep ever, while tossing and turning all night long. I think his trial half simulating race day is the real testament to what he might do. More like a 2;08+..Which would be awesome, he would then finally be the fastest ever triathlete marathoner.

Well not really “just” - why you shoutin’? Was on an insta iirc
Maranoia is on my mind but I’m excited to have one last go at the marathon distance.
and here’s the tri247 article derived from that, 8 days ago:

Sarcasm, anyone?

2:07:43 although it looks to be a touch warm and breezy.

Finished 2:06:38, now sitting 2nd best GB mens

Looks like the Coros didn’t do so badly after all, just under a minute off! Three classes above Garmin’s “race predictor”.

Impressive performance, 7th overall. Well within Olympic qualifying standard? Can he improve more to sub 2:05?

How do we think that would transfer into Ironman? Is he good enough swim and run to beat the Norwegians or any of the other big hitters?

Every triathlete who gets excited about PRO times and “records” in triathlon:

This time would have earned him an Olympic medal in Paris.

Well the course in Paris was notoriously difficult with big hills, so you can’t compare directly. But that is an insane time. About a minute off Mo Farah’s GB record, better than all other GB athletes, including those that raced in Paris.

7th Overall in Valencia is crazy good, he’s a legitimate marathoner, inside the prize money at a big marathon. And paced incrediby. 3:01/km the whole way, and accelerated a tad in the end to end at almost 3:00/km. In his 2nd marathon ! He could definitey pursue qualification for Los Angeles in marathon if he wanted.

Very interested to see how this will translate to his triathlon short course career. I bet he will come back stronger than ever.

Yee Boi! Should he run the marathon for the Commonwealth Games? I’d be excited to see that.

The Coros predictor looks pretty good to me based on experience. He’s now the poster boy of the company after Kipchoge’s contract ended.

Incredible pacing…like a metronome!

would be awesome to see him double up tri and marathon. dont think anyone ever did that

He definitely has to be pleased with this result I know it can be pretty individualized, but does anyone know how good are the New Balance super shoes? Is he giving up much time there?

I personally think there’s zero chance he tries that. He could probably qualify in both after what he’s shown today, but impossible to be competitive in both. If he comes back and absolutely dominates triathlon and wins gold easily in 2028, maybe he goes to marathon and tries that. But both at the same time ? That’s a step too far in my opinion.

How about another change to “. . to run the marathon in 2025”? To keep all the ‘chat’ in one thread.
